Indiana police found marijuana and other unidentified controlled substances on rocker Bret Michaels’ tour buses, The Fort Wayne News-Sentinel reported Friday. Two tour buses, one of which carried the rock star , were pulled over in DeKalb County, northeast Indiana, before midnight local time Wednesday. Police stopped the caravan because a trailer connected to one of the buses did not have a license plate light.

Ten Questions with the Mighty Mike “The Sandman” Sanders from 103WGBF
You know him as “The SandMan”. He can be found at 103.1 on the FM dial. We all have welcomed his voice into our homes, factories, backyard grill outs and drunken naked beach parties. Hell, he was probably there when a few legs have been “tapped” too in some of your backseats. He kicks ass and is above all the others. The # 1 voice on the radio . And…
KICKACTS PROUDLY PRESENTS
1. Mike, welcome to KICKACTS. To the three or four people out there that have been locked in a closet with no radio for the past 20 years. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I have been on air doing radio in Evansville since Dec. 1979. Most of my time has been with 103.1, either as KC103 which it was in the early 80’s or in it’s current incarnation of 103GBF. I have also been the station program director since 1996
2. You have been a part of the # 1 Rock station in this market since its debut as KC103 back in the day. How has radio changed since then?
Technically it’s been a quantum leap. From vinyl to digital. As far as being a dj, it’s still pretty much the same. Try and cut through the b.s. and get the listener back to the music asap.
3. In your spare time, what do you like to do other than radio?
Spare time? That’s funny!! I like getting tattoos, hanging out with chicks, listening to music, watching movies and sports.
4. Do you have any way of knowing how many people call in each time you open up the phone lines for a call in contest?
Nope. No way of knowing that.
5. You are the #1 rated DJ in this area, in fact you are a local celebrity in your own right. Do you get recognized in public with your voice?
Yeah, I do. It’s very flattering. I just consider myself a dude with a cool job.
6. Where is radio heading? Will it all be automated eventually?
In small markets, it is to a large degree. I think people in towns our size and larger still want local air talent who can give them local info.
7. Most baby boomers associate the life of an on air personality to the lives portrayed in the TV sitcom “WKRP in Cincinnati”. Is it anything like that at all? Are there any Doctor Johnny Fever’s or Venus Flytrap’s not forgetting to mention Bailey Quarter’s or Jennifer Marlowe’s?
Oh yeah. That show is definitely based in reality. I’m probably a more hyped up, tattooed version of Dr. Johnny Fever myself.
8. What is the craziest contest stunt you have ever seen in your career.
We had a guy walk down the median on Green River Road in front of the mall in a thong to win concert tickets. That was cool. Attracted lots of attention.
9.You probably have the southwest wing of your house dedicated to rock and radio memorabilia that you have collected over the years. What is the coolest thing you have?
I’m not really too much into saving stuff like that. I do have a few platinum album awards from bands we’ve broken over the years like Creed and Godsmack. I have a few autographed items as well. Mostly it’s good memories.
10.# 10 is called “SHOUT IT LOUD”. It’s where you get to say whatever you want to say… So go ahead Mike, and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!!
Bonus Question:
Are radio personalities like Howard Stern, Bob and Tom,and John Boy and Billy still relevant today?
Yes. Howard Stern is of course on satellite radio which is fading into the sunset to a large degree. But syndicated personalities have the power to attract big name stars onto their shows, which is something a station in a market our size couldn’t do on it’s own. I’ve never enjoyed John Boy and Billy personally. Too southern…too NASCAR for me. Bob and Tom offer comedy which has universal appeal.
Thanks for giving me the opportunity, Chuck!!

DROWNING… A must read for anyone with a pool or Swims.
Drowning looks different than you think. Think drowning involves screaming, gasping, and flailing? Think it’s easy to notice someone drowning? Well, you’re wrong. Drowning is a silent killer. There’s no splashing, waving, or calling for help of any kind. It’s not like what you see on TV. Many people would not even notice another person drowning at just 30 yards away. Read on for tips on how to keep yourself and those you love safe from this silent killer whether at the beach or in your backyard pool. See also The First Step to Better Parenting… The Facts About this Silent Killer The Instinctive Drowning Response, a term coined by Francesco A. Pia, Ph.D., is what people instinctively do to avoid suffocation when drowning. The responses to drowning are undramatic and surprisingly quiet. Drownings are the leading cause of injury death for young children ages 1 to 4. Even scarier is that in a small but significant percentage of kids’ drownings, an adult will have watched the whole process, not having a clue what was happening (Source:CDC). See also Do You Have a Picky Eater? Drowning Doesn’t Look Like What You’d Expect Dr. Pia, in an article entitled “It Doesn’t Look Like They’re Drowning” featured in the Coast Guard’s On Scene Magazine (Fall 06), describes the typical drowning response as follows: “Except in rare circumstances, drowning people are physiologically unable to call out for help. The respiratory system was designed for breathing. Speech is the secondary or overlaid function. Breathing must be fulfilled before speech occurs. Drowning people’s mouths alternately sink below and reappear above the surface of the water. The mouth of a drowning person is not above the surface of the water long enough to exhale, inhale, and call out for help. When the drowning person’s mouth is above the surface, she exhales and inhales quickly as her mouth starts to sink below the surface of the water. Drowning people cannot wave for help. Nature instinctively forces them to extend their arms laterally and press down on the water’s surface. Pressing down on the surface of the water permits drowning people to leverage their bodies so they can lift their mouths out of the water to breathe. Throughout the Instinctive Drowning Response drowning people cannot voluntarily control their arm movements. Physiologically, drowning people who are struggling on the surface of the water cannot stop drowning and perform voluntary movements such as waving for help, moving toward a rescuer, or reaching out for a piece of rescue equipment. From beginning to end of the Instinctive Drowning Response people’s bodies remain upright in the water, with no evidence of a supporting kick. Unless rescued by a trained lifeguard, these drowning people can only struggle on the surface of the water from 20 to 60 seconds before submersion occurs.” See also Top Things to Do with Your Kids This Summer Signs of Drowning Watch for these signs the next time you’re swimming with your kids or others: •Head low in the water, mouth at water level •Head tilted back with open mouth •Hair over forehead or eyes •Eyes glassy, empty and unable to focus •Eyes closed •Hyperventilating or gasping •Not using legs •Body is vertical and upright •Trying to swim in a certain direction but not making progress •Trying to roll over on the back Stay Aware to Save a Life Keep your eyes open for any oddities because even when things seem ok, they may not be. A good way to be sure is to ask your kid or the person you’re swimming with if he or she is all right. If they are rather still, do not answer or have a blank stare, then you may have less than 30 seconds to get to them! As any parent knows, kids make noise in the water. If they are not making noise, find out why and get them out of the water ASAP.

I am calling “FAIL” on this news Article…”Boney M” who???
I rememebr disco. In fact, I prolly remember almost every disco hit. I can’t name them all of course but I remember them. Anyway, this article reads that this band was an iconic 1970’s disco group with a disco hit called “River to Babylon”… I have never heard of the band nor the song. I think this is just a PR thing to get them in the press. I went to YouTube and listened to the song just incase I had forgotten it. Nope, never heard it before…So I call FAIL on this….Funny how the article goes on to read they performed in front of “hundreds”…not bad for a 1970’s “iconic” disco band……
chuck
When the iconic 1970s disco group Boney M rocked Ramallah this week, the local music festival prevented the band from performing one of its biggest hits.
Lead singer Maizie Williams said Palestinian concert organizers told her not to sing “Rivers of Babylon.” The song’s chorus quotes from the Book of Psalms, referring to the exiled Jewish people’s yearning to return to the biblical land of Israel.
Palestinians often question the Jewish historical connection to the Holy Land. Organizers said they asked for the song to be skipped, deeming it “inappropriate.”
“I don’t know if it is a political thing or what, but they asked us not to do it and we were a bit disappointed that we could not do it because we know that everybody loves this song no matter what,” she said.
for the rest…

================ About The Greencards ============
This critically acclaimed Austin-formed / Nashville-based band’s love and
respect for Americana, bluegrass and country brought them together in 2003.
The Greencards have:
* Toured multiple dates with Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Rosanne Cash,
Kasey Chambers and Tim O’Brien just to name a few;
* Earned the Americana Music Association Award in 2006 for “Emerging
Artist of the Year”; and
* Landed Grammy nominations in 2007 and December 2009.
Originally from Australia, their urge to challenge themselves and test the
limits of any established genre has guided singer / bassist Carol Young, and
mandolin master Kym Warner (accompanied by fiddle and guitar) on their first
three albums.
The Greencards released their fourth album in April 2009. Fascination is the
band’s most daring project to date. Meticulously crafted arrangements serve
as springboards for exhilarating improvisations. While technically
breathtaking and acoustically driven, The Greencards have consistently moved
towards a sound of their own.
The Greencards appeared at several festivals in 2009 such as Austin City
Limits, Telluride, Walnut Valley (Winfield), MerleFest, Lollapalooza and the
Cayamo Cruise. They were at MerleFest again this year as well as Grey Fox.

I’m with Bruce Dickinson on this one…

Iron Maiden Will Not ‘Rape You for 200 Bucks a Ticket’

In this summer of show cancellations and poor attendance, Iron Maiden are selling out arenas and sheds with little or no publicity. The July 3 date at Toronto’s Molson Amphitheatre drew a capacity crowd of 16,000, and Montreal was 14,400 at Bell Centre a few days later. “Sold out in Vancouver; sold out Toronto; Edmonton was sold out,” Bruce Dickinson rattles off to Noisecreep during the Toronto stop, but before Montreal. “We did 10 or 11 [thousand] in Winnipeg. We did eight in Saskatoon.” The band are now doing similar numbers on tour in the U.S.
The British heavy metal legends aren’t even pumping up their forthcoming album, ‘The Final Frontier,’ just yet, releasing just one free download, ‘El Dorado,’ the only new song in their set list. Perhaps their success has to do with their reasonable ticket prices, top seats all under $90 before the FMF fee and service charge.
“No, we don’t do $250,” scoffs Dickinson at acts that would charge that much and more. “But that’s bulls— anyway. What that is is all these quote-unquote ‘heritage’ acts . That’s the name they’ve branded themselves with.
“Basically, you’re going and seeing a bunch of bands that have been around for a while doing the same old s—. They just come out of the woodwork after 10 years and go, ‘Hmm, let me see. You’re going to pay through the nose for seeing the same old s— so were gonna rape you for 200 bucks a ticket.’ And what that says to me is, ‘We won’t be doing this again any time soon’ or ‘If you’re crazy enough to pay this money and sell out, well maybe we’ll come round again next year and see if it works again.'”
Maiden, however, have the kind of rabid fan base that will rarely miss a show. The Toronto concert was filled with guys under the age of 18 and many fathers and sons, all suitably outfitted in black Eddie shirts, sharing the Maiden experience. This was not like an Eagles concert where everyone is the same age as Don Henley and company. “Isn’t that boring?” says Dickinson. “I’m 51. S—, if I had an audience of people my age, I think I’d kill myself. At least I wouldn’t be there next time.”
Instead, many of the men his age in the crowd are likely telling themselves they should get to the gym, after seeing the unstoppable Dickinson run around the stage like a man half his age.
“An Iron Maiden show should not be some kind of bourgeoisie experience like going to see the Eagles with $50 hotdogs and dickie bows and all that kind of s—,” says Dickinson. “It should be as dirty and smelly and sweaty as you can possibly be. And I if you don’t like dirty, smelly and sweaty s—, stay away.”

Joe Elliot: Def Leppard don’t get enough respect
When your done reading the article, go to the bottom of the page for my answer as to why Dep Leppard don’t get any respect:)
chuck
What’s Down ’n’ Outz all about?
I opened for Mott The Hoople on their reunion show last year. The Quireboys joined me in the band as Leppard were all spread out. It was covers of all the stuff various Mott members did after they split up, songs from my childhood that I’ve adored. Now we’ve recorded the songs and are doing some shows. I’m probably the biggest Mott fan on the planet. Morrissey says he’s a bigger fan but he isn’t.
What’s happening with Def Leppard?
We’re taking a year off. I’m doing this because I have the time. After you have a hit like Hysteria and you’re signed to the corporate machine it becomes an albatross around your neck. As much as our music is anthemic rock’n’roll it’s a business at the end of the day. It’s stressful and gets harder each time you make a record. No one’s comparing this to Hysteria, it’s got nothing to do with it. It’s a refreshing change. It’s like being a teenager in a 50-year-old body.
What was it like trying to start a metal band in the punk era?
It was exciting. I was 17 when punk happened but I was still buying Queen and Thin Lizzy. We liked punk but didn’t want to be in a punk band. The first song we learned was Suffragette City. The good thing was that punk got rid of the 15minute guitar solo.
What’s been your biggest moment of rock’n’roll excess – have you ever thrown a TV out of a window?
When I was young enough to want to do something as stupid as that I couldn’t have afforded to. People who did that only did it because Keith Moon did it first. We were only getting $50 a week when we started touring so I didn’t want to get into debt paying for TVs. There are lots of great rock bands who have never thrown a TV through a window. It’s not a prerequisite. I’ve always been more into the music than the groupies, drugs or smashing up hotel rooms. I wanted to be in the biggest band in the world. And we were a couple of times. People in Britain don’t realise. We don’t get the credit we deserve in Britain

Q&A: Scorpions talk about farewell tour
from azcentral.com
Question: How’s the tour going so far?
Answer: The tour started in May in Germany and Europe. We’ve been in the States for about three weeks, starting on the East Coast. And it has been amazing so far. Usually, the East Coast isn’t our strongest area. We’ve always been bigger on the West Coast and in places like Chicago and Phoenix, but the crowds have been very enthusiastic. I think part of that is due to having such strong new material.
Q: You mention Phoenix being one of your hot spots. You even wrote a song about the state (“Arizona,” from the 1982 album, “Blackout”).
A: Thank you for reminding me about “Arizona.” That’s a song we never play live, except when we are in Arizona. We don’t do soundchecks so we’ll need to find some time to rehearse it. We wrote it about our 1980 tour, with Ted Nugent and Def Leppard. We had played a show in Arizona and had a couple days off, just hanging out at the motel, drinking and partying with these girls we met. It’s just about life on the road in the early ’80s.
We’ve had some amazing shows in Phoenix as well. I remember the show at Compton Terrace in 1985. That was the only time Aerosmith opened for us. We’d opened for them in 1979 on one of our first visits to America. There were about 40,000 people there and the crowd got out of control – something happened – some people got hurt. They changed the capacity of the venue after our show. I know the next time we played at Compton Terrace, the crowd was much smaller. (New reports at the time said there were numerous fist fights and three people suffered superficial stab wounds but no arrests were made).
Q: You’ve been playing with the Scorpions since 1978. What are some career highlights for you?
A: I’ve been in this band for over half my life. Really, the Scorpions are my life. There are so many highlights, I can hardly pick one. Not just the big concerts, like the first Rock in Rio in 1985 or the US Festival in 1983. Probably the biggest honor was when we were invited to perform at the Kremlin by Mikhail Gorbachev in 1991, 10 days before his retirement – the first Western rock band to be honored like that.
