Roger is taking it out but where’s Pete?

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – “The Who” frontman Roger Daltrey is taking the British band’s 1969 rock opera “Tommy” on a six-week North American tour beginning in September, concert promoters said on Thursday.

Daltrey, 67, will perform the album in its entirety, using visuals to accompany classic songs like “Pinball Wizard,” “See Me, Feel Me” and “The Acid Queen.”

His bandmate Pete Townshend, who wrote the music and lyrics to the tale of the “deaf, dumb and blind boy” who becomes a messiah, has given Daltrey his blessing but will not be taking part.

“I will be there in spirit. Roger has my complete and most loving support,” Townshend said in a statement.

The tour of the United States and Canada kicks off in Hollywood, Fla., on September 13 and follows Daltrey’s performance of the album in London in March.

“Tommy” is considered the first rock opera, and was turned into a movie, in which Daltrey played the title role, and a Tony Award-winning stage show.

The double album has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998.

Well, once again …No OZZFEST…

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Ozzy should retire anyway…. He can’t sing anymore..needs a teleprompter like our Prez. does…pisses his pants on stage (notice he pours water on himself every time?? And hasn’t released a good album since “No More Tears” in 1991. Studio magic is all that has saved him in the studio. I will admit he ruled the world and was awesome in his prime…But his prime is over…He is not only over the mountain but he is over the hill too and cant fly high again…Yes, it’s a sad day to realize that but Ozzy, hang up the bats.

chuck

from Blabbermouth.

It’s now official: There will be no Ozzfest in 2011. The venerable heavy rock and metal festival, started in 1997 by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, has gone through a number of changes over the last few years as a result of economic woes and more competition from events like the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem and Uproar festivals. Now for the second time in three years, Ozzfest will not take place at all this summer. Ozzy said, “No, [there will be no Ozzfest] this year. I just finished a lengthy arena tour of the U.S., so I’ve decided to tour Europe this summer instead.”

Last year’s Ozzfest was a short, six-date run that featured OZZY, MÖTLEY CRÜE, HALFORD, DEVILDRIVER and NONPOINT.

There was no Ozzfest in 2009, while the 2008 edition was a one-day “destination” event in Dallas, Texas, starring OZZY, METALLICA, APOCALYPTICA, KORN‘s Jonathan Davis and more.

Even with a still-sluggish economy, the summer festival schedule is packed with events and tours like Mayhem, Uproar, Lollapalooza, the MÖTLEY CRÜE/POISON and ROB ZOMBIE/SLAYER double bills, and others.

Rock Hall pays tribute to pioneering lady rockers

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0
By MEGHAN BARR, Associated Press Meghan Barr, Associated Press Thu May 12, 3:02 pm ET

CLEVELAND – When Wanda Jackson was a girl with a gravelly voice who opened for Elvis Presley in the 1950s, nobody had ever heard a woman sing like that before.

By then, Presley was already gyrating his way to superstardom. But Jackson — called the “queen of rockabilly” for her gritty, feisty performances — couldn’t even get her songs played on the radio.

“It’s like they just got their heads together and said, `We will not help this girl do it,'” the 73-year-old Jackson recalls. “They just wouldn’t play my records if it was the rock stuff. So it didn’t take long before I was putting a country song on one side of a record and a rock song on the other.”

Jackson’s old acoustic guitar will be featured at a new exhibit dedicated to female artists that opens Friday at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in downtown Cleveland. “Women Who Rock: Vision, Passion, Power” chronicles the pioneering role of women in rock ‘n’ roll, from Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith to Bikini Kill and Lady GaGa.

The hall of fame had toyed with the idea of opening such an exhibit for years, and it gained traction after Cyndi Lauper paid a visit last year and watched a film about the roots of rock, said Jim Henke, vice president of exhibitions and curatorial affairs.

“She thought it was too male-dominated,” Henke says, “and she wondered where the female artists were.”

Museum officials say just about 9 percent of its inductees are women — a reflection of the rock industry, which was a macho culture at its core, says Glenn Altschuler, a Cornell University professor who wrote the book “All Shook Up: How Rock n’ Roll Changed America.”

Pink Floyd fans everywhere are excited about this!

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

“There is a slight sense that we are coming to the end of the period where people will buy the physical record with all the packaging and the information and so on,” Mason, 67, told Reuters at the Hollywood outpost of the band’s EMI Records label.

Pink Floyd in race against time to reissue albums

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – The mammoth CD reissue program undertaken by Pink Floyd is an acknowledgment that the era of physical CDs and lavish artwork is coming to an end, as fans increasingly opt to download music digitally, drummer Nick Mason said on Wednesday.

Two years after the Beatles unveiled a similar program, the British progressive rock band is reissuing digitally remastered versions of all 14 of its studio albums, both individually and as a boxed set on September 26.

But Pink Floyd is doing something the Beatles never did, to the disappointment of Fab Four fans. Three albums will also be reissued with plenty of rarities in multi-disc versions. Revised and expanded artwork was a heavy priority for a band with a history of visual innovation.

“There is a slight sense that we are coming to the end of the period where people will buy the physical record with all the packaging and the information and so on,” Mason, 67, told Reuters at the Hollywood outpost of the band’s EMI Records label.

“I think it’s really important to try and have a last go at that, because if we do end up just downloading everything from now on it would be a shame if there wasn’t on record all that good artwork and the things that went with it.”

Cdn. exclusive: The AC/DC interview

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

I have seen AC/DC several times going all the way back to the Highway to Hell tour with Bon Scott in 1979. They opend for Molly Hacthett, can you believe that? After AC/DC, Molly Hatchett just stood on stage and alot of the crowd left the Coliseum. Thier asses were clearly kicked that night.

So here we are 30 plus years later and AC/DC is still kicking ass! I just recently caught the “Black Ice” tour and these guys can still dish it out. They put the young bands of today to shame. Todays bands all sound and look the same. There is only one AC/DC. Enjoy the article from CDN.

South American audiences are known for being insane, and the one on the DVD certainly fills the bill. Does crowd response still mean anything after all these years?

JOHNSON: It certainly does. It gives me goose bumps some nights. You’ve really got to concentrate on what you’re doing, because if you start looking at the crowd, you forget what you’re doing.

YOUNG: Some shows, you can feel a buzz before you even come out. It’s almost like you don’t have to be there. They’re already having fun. And you can’t hype an audience. It never works.

JOHNSON: I actually think if you talk to an audience too much, you start to sound like a politician or a union boss. Just shut the f— up and start playing.

Why not just put (rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young and bassist Cliff Williams’) microphones at the back of the stage where they stand so they don’t have to walk 10 steps forward and 10 steps back all night long?

JOHNSON: What! You must be joking! We’d be lost! We’d be confused!

YOUNG: I remember Mick Jagger asked me once: ‘Do you think Malcolm would come forward and play?’ I said: ‘Those steps are ingrained in him. That’s his dance move. That’s it.’

Plus, it’s his only exercise of the night.

David Wilkerson R.I.P.

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Really this is about a week late but since I no longer  watch christian Tv as much as I used to and I didn’t see it in the secular news. Well, I missed it…. David Wilkerson was an Evangelist that was drawn to New York City to preach the gospel of Jesus to the street gangs and drug addicts in 1958. Which was basically unheard of at that time. He also founded the Times Square church. In 1963 He wrote a book about his experiences in New York entitled “The Cross and the Switch Blade. It ended up selling around 50 million copies World Wide  and in 1970 was turned into a Hollywood movie of the same name staring Pat Boone and a young Erik Estrada. In the Christian circle the movie is highly regarded as a wonderful ministering tool to reach people even to this day. Though some what dated with the clothes and street language of “today”, the movie is a good movie to watch and I remember being touched by it the first time I saw it many years ago as a young church attendee. As we were scanning channels last night my wife and I came across it and saw where it was being rebroadcast  “in Memory” of David Wilkerson. So I grabbed the laptop and researched his name. He was killed in a car wreck on April 27th 2011 and was buried May 3rd. His wife is still in the hospital as of this writing. He was 79.

If you get a chance I would recommend checking out the movie “the Cross and the Switch Blade”. You may or may not “get” the message but its a good movie all in the same…I have included a youtube video of different clips from the movie… Check it out.

NEW YORK – Bon Jovi announced that Richie Sambora will miss dates on its current tour amid reports that the guitarist is heading to rehab.

In a statement released Thursday, the group said its support for Sambora was “absolute” and that he remained a member of the band. But it also said he would miss an undetermined number of concerts and that it looked forward to his “healthy return.”

Neither the band nor its publicist would confirm or deny reports that Sambora planned to enter rehab. He went to rehab a few years ago.

Ted Nugent Blasts Hollywood ‘Idiots,”

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

I say Uncle Ted for President!!

chuck

It has always been the brain-dead elitist element to disarm others, while they are armed and protected by the other’s tax dollars. The misconception is misrepresentation in the media, and people who look at a gun and immediately look at the tragic use of a gun.

Ted Nugent

Rocker Ted Nugent likes meat, and has no time for those who don’t.

We caught up with the rocker and star of the Outdoor Channel show “Ted Nugent Spirit of the Wild,” (which airs on Tuesdays at 8:30 pm ET) to find out more about his love of hunting, and his distaste for Hollywood.

What are some of the biggest misconceptions surrounding hunting, and why do you love it?

As a hunter, I am a person who is connected to Mother Earth and knows where food comes from. The production of tofu causes more death than my machine gun and helicopter. The fields that you need to grow the beans in have to be completely destroyed of any wildlife or any living thing so that it doesn’t have to compete with tofu.

You tweeted about having a great Easter…

Yes, I devoured a ham. It’s the least I can do to celebrate He rises. We have an incredible pantry of God’s renewable protein here in Texas and Michigan and God just keeps sending me packages of delicious grilled meat and I accept them.”

You’re speaking at the 2011 NRA Show in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this weekend where you’re hosting a seminar session called, “I Still Believe,” which focuses on freedom and gun rights. What is the main message you’re trying to get out?
