8,500 empty seats and a crowd of 40 people

Ouch…I get totally bummed out if a bar I am playing in isn’t packed out or if people aren’t interested. I couldn’t imagine being on top of the hill back in the 80’s and now playing for 40 people in an empty arena. The original article says “Karma Continues” but I won’t go there. I think its more of the sad State America is in with live bands. They just don’t care anymore. Metal still rules overseas. Maybe we should all just move over there?

KickActs interviews Tim King of “SOiL”

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Please “like” and share!

Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and were you can be

found online.

tknTim King from the band SOiL. I play bass. All things Soil can be found at:

www.soiltheband.com <http://www.soiltheband.com>*

www.facebook.com/soilmusic <http://www.facebook.com/soilmusic>*

Who are your musical heroes and influences? Why?

Nikki Sixx made me wanna play bass.I loved his look and attitude. Also

loved his business sense.

As for other bass heroes I like Dave Ellefson from Megadeth. Great player. Duff McCagan from GNR. Another highly underrated player.  Love John Patitucci. He is prolly my favorite technical player hands down.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in the music

business?

Yes. Give it all you have. If you don’t want to sacrifice everything to

make it and I mean EVERYTHING (family, relationships, children, weddings

funerals, jobs, house, car, etc) then just do it as a hobby, beause you

won’t make it in this business otherwise. Well unless you are rich to begin

with.

What piece of advice did you ignore that you wish you hadn’t?

There are certain tours and events we should have participated on early in

our career which we passed on.  That prolly was a mistake.

 Soil 2

Do you have a greatest gig story or worst gig horror story you’d like to

share?

The greatest was definitely a London gig in 2011 with Ryan back in the

band.  Our first gig with him back in almost seven years.  I just felt

alive again.  I felt like I was proud again.

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps?

Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of peckers or

boobs?  Make sock puppets? Sit in the dark and eat Cheetos?

I love salt water aquariums.  I have two reef tanks and I am kind of a

total fish nerd when it comes to studying coral growth and lighting

techniques.  It keeps me away from worrying about music 24/7.

What do you think about the current music scene or lack of? Care to

address that?

I feel sorry for the new bands the most.  They will never get to feel what

it is like to be “wined and dined”.  The days of excess are over.  It’s all

bare bones these days. It’s so tough to sell records these days and

technology is killing everything.  Streaming on spotify and pandora is

killing the sale of songs and albums.

Do you think reality shows like American Idol, X factor and The Voice have

helped or hurt the music industry as a whole?

I think they just kinda make a mockery out of the business.  They laugh

and mock the people that have no business even being on TV cause they suck

so bad and then they take the real talent and brutalize them into

competitions.

What is your opinion of unauthorized music downloads?

It’s killing everything we do. It’s hard enough to sell music to people,

let alone do it when a click away you can get it before streetdate.

Hypothetical situation. You’re on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up

with only one of the survivors… Which one and why?

Both Ginger and Mary Ann of course.  Mr Howel can watch.

 hahahahahahahahahaha

Do you know what a vinyl album is and have your ever purchased one? If so,

what was it?

Yes of course.  I own plenty of it. In fact our new Soil album “whole” is

out on vinyl. My favorite was the gatefold Motley Crue “shout at the devil”

LP. Looks so bad ass.

You’re marooned on an island with Justin Bieber. Do you choke him out the

first night in his sleep or what?

Hell no.  I just found my new butler.

What is your opinion of Miley Cyrus?

She’s cool. Very talented. Can’t take that away from her.  She deserves

credit.

Which would you rather hear in concert?  Lip synching or real vocals?

If you can’t play your instrument, you have no business being on stage.

period!

Who, or what, is the next big thing?

Who the hell knows. It could be a bunch of clowns playing the skin flute

for all I know, and it prolly will be.

One artist you can’t get enough of and can’t live without is…

Motley Crue of course…..my favorite band of all time.

Confession time. Share a secret about yourself.

My new guilty pleasure is the tv show “2 broke girls”

Favorite movie of all time and why.

The Warriors. Just something about that movie that is so bad ass. I always

wanted to run a street gang.

Our last question is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk

about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

Well since that is also a KISS song, I’d like to express how tired I am of

hearing all the back and forth bickering from the original 4 members. WHO

GIVES A FUCK!!!!!!!!!

Tim
