Dog The Bounty Hunter “You’re A Freakin’ Douche”

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

dog“I already hate that son of a bitch” is what Duane “The Dog” Chapman recently said on one of his episodes of the reality show “Dog, The Bounty Hunter”. He was refering to an “Ice” dealer named Pana that he was revoking bail on. First, I want to applaud Dog and his team for taking bail jumpers off of the streets of Hawaii.  After Jack Lord died Hollywood could no longer call on Steve McGarrett and “book ’em Danno” to keep them clean so up pops “The Dog”. Have you ever watched it? His team runs around with paintball guns and pepper spray to subdue anyone that attempts to run away. I guess he is not allowed to carry weapons since he himself is a former felon and served time for a murder for which he proclaims his innocence. I can’t blame the guy there, only he and God knows the truth. So back to why I feel like he is “The Douche Bag of the week”. Ever watch the show? Well, there is a repeating pattern for every case and its almost always the same. They huddle in the office of the Da Kine Bail Bonds business and discuss who they are attempting to capture. That’s not where the problem is. What happens next is. It is so scripted. First off, he’ll chase whomever it is he is chasing. Most of the time it’s his younger sons’ that catch the “bad guy” and then Dog will come into the scene and start cussing and name calling the perpretrator like he did Pana on last night’s episode. Dog called him a mother fucking piece of scum among other things and held him by the back of his hair. The guy was already handcuffed and definitely not going anywhere. He never even put up a fight. So there was Dog, doing what he always does after the guy is safely restrained, talking smack about him. Then Dog asked Leland to put him in the truck. Dog’s wife Beth, will next talk to any wives or girlfriends of the before mentioned capturee. After that, Dog will offer the captured soul a cigarette and most times a sandwich. Then, he’ll have the  captured guy call his mother and tell her he loves her. Then after all of that, Dog will get in the truck with him to give him the same speech he gives to just about everyone he arrests. I’ve been where you been bro” … and then before he is taken into the jail they pray with the guy they just ran down and captured. He does this week after week. Once again, so scripted … It’s almost like there is a Hollywood script reader there with a clip board an a ink pen saying ” Capture bad guy” check. Talk smack to him “check”. Have Leland put him/her into the truck “Check”. Beth talk with female “Check”. And every once in awhile hollering “Dog, we need a reshoot, you forgot to offer them  a smoke”. So that’s why Dog is the Douche Bag of the week, not for what he does in keeping the streets clean but for sacrificing his integrity for Hollywood and money and following the same old template each week … I just wonder if the paintball guns and pepper spray would work in “Watts”?

Ten Questions With Jesse Wininger

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

1. Hey Jesse, welcome to Kickacts. com. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Well, I was born in 1953, the same year as Playboy, and the Corvette, happily we are all still around!I started in music way back at Harwood grade school,  then I was in everything music related at North, back then we had some great drummers there, which were older than me…Pat Moore, Mark Wichser, Mark Savage, Jeff Taylor..I was in the marching band, pep band, concert choir..you name it

Jesse Wininger2. You currently play drums in the band “Common Ground”. Tell us about the band and who is in it and the website address you guys can be found at.

Common Ground has been around for 4 years now, Chad and Brian Lynch are brothers, and come from a musical family. Their Dad Paul playedin a top country band around here in the 60’s and 70’s..” Country Inc”…Chad was originally a drummer, he is multi-talented and decided one day to quit hauling around drums and talk to me about forming a band. i had always told him if he made the switch that I would like to work w/ him. i worked with Brian in a few bandsand so I was convinced this would work.  our schedule and info is at http://www.myspace.com/commongroundcountry also on bandnut.com, what we strive for is our vocals,  those guys sing great, and we have 3 lead singers…I feel our vocals is what stands out, when you hear us.We are a cover band new country and classic rock..Big and Rich..to Judas Priest..!!

3. What type of gear do you use?

my main kit is a 2007 Gretsch 6pc, with a Gibraltar rack, Zildjian cymbals, DW 5002 pedals. I just bought a Ludwig Vistalite acrylic 3 pc kit, amber in color, that I use on some gigs too, acrylic definitly has a different drum sound…bright with alot of volume, I spend my money at Forks Drum Closet in Nashville, if I need something…they are one of the best drum shops anywhere.

4. So when you were traveling on the road, did you travel in a station wagon or one of those old smoky diesel buses? Ever paid your dues and froze your ass off in what ever you were in?

This is hard to believe now..our bass player was a mechanic and we restored a 1961 Ford Econoline van..back in those days our equipment fit in it , this is before Subs, and high end PA..it was all hi impedance gear then..and we took a car with us too,.this was before cell phones, GPS..so we got lost sometimes…we ran from Cleveland to Savannah.. we had 5 of us in a room, we were tight with our money..I remember going from cleveland to Monroe Lousiana…one gig to another and  sleeping on the floor of a 1972 LTD..the tranmission hump was uncomfortable..lol..but I was 18 ….youth on my side.

5. Do you have any “greatest gig ever” stories to tell?

greatest gigs…they are all great in the respect that im playing music that particular night, what more can you ask?but when I was living in California I had a great club The Cattle Baron..w/ the mechanical bull, this was the Urban Cowboy craze..that band had terry chrisftofferson from Buck Owens…In 1972 I was on the road and there was another The Stables in mentor, Ohio.. a 300 seat clubthe executive in paducah ky was cool back in the day…

6. And in the same vien, got any “worst gig ever” stories to share?

One of the worst was in 1972, we were at a gig scheduled for 2 weeks, for some reason the clubowner was a control freak, bitching between sets etc.we called our agent, he told us to get outta there at the end of the first week, he re- booked us some where else, another time at Johnny’s Inn on morgan avenue, after the club was closed, the manager was drunk and shot off a few rounds out of his gun..a bullet went thru 2 drums.the next day, he was apologetic, and bought me 2 new drums!!

Common Ground7. You have been playing since 1968, correct? What was it like in the beginning and do you have any advice for the young musicians up and coming in this area?

you can’t imagine the scene in the 60’s and 70’s if you werent old enought to remember, When i was in high school there were after football game shows in these little towns, a teen club in grayville, Oakland City, jasper calumet, kramers lake and Wes-lake,….just a bunch of gigs back then, the was an agency booking bands locally even then…I got my first steady gig by posting an ad at Dallas Music.  there were some great bands then, Unpredictables, Free Reign, Turks, Chocolate Haystack, The Vikings…these were bands that played the area, most guys were in high scool…When I came off of the road, there were all kinds of clubs here, I was playing 4-6 nights a week, so many places had bands it was crazy, i played full time until 2000, from 1974 until then my only job was in a band somewhere.i played a long time at the Exective Inns when Bob Green was alive and the owner…all 3 had music 6 nights a week, plus The evansville one had a showroom, with a house ochresta..imagine that! My buddy gary Stephans played in that band and backed alot of stars in those days.I saw Jerry lee Lewis, kenny Rogers with The first edition..Little Richard…Green booked major talent in those days,,..it was happenin’russell lloyd construction killed a couple of clubs, plus alot of clubs aren’t around anymore, for example, captain den, Joe’s bar, Country palace, Bridgeview, El matador,Red garter, Trixies Alibi, Duffys tavern, Red Fox…it aint the same now! about 1982 or ’83 the first drunk driving laws, changed the business to an extent. As far as advice for younger guys…well the biggest problem is finding a place to play and learn the ropes..i had it easier when I was a kid..there were gigs.I was playing in strip bars at 17…until they checked my I.D.  The internet is a good tool for getting yourself out there, but what is needed in my view, obvoiusly is more gigs!!

8. Who are your heroes and what inspired you to take up playing?

My heroes..Buddy Rich and the reason Im playing drums probably is Ringo and the Beatles…when they hit it was a cultural shock..never been the same.suddenly guys wanted to learn an instrument and play in a band…meet girls, play music, grow your hair long and piss off your parents..Also I had great teachers in school..Jerry Hoover a legend at North…Pat Moore, my first drum instructor…the list is long..

9. Damn, seems like you had a full plate of giging, which is what we all strive for..during your time playing did you do any recordings of original music? if so, what did you do and do you have any mp3’s you wanna share with us?

I dont have any stuff on the net except a clip of a song I wrote on myspace….which is track 3.I have a whole album of another band from 1982 ” Black    River…original songs, that I need to get a CD of to load to the internet..

10. # 10 is called “Shout it Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead Jesse, and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

I want to shout it out…to all my friends that I have worked with over my 41 years in the local band scene..some arent around anymore..but that happens, some quit, got old…cant  do it forever, but Im trying to…also the club owners that support live music around here…those people are in an ever evolving, difficult business…but we appreciate the opportunity, to have a gig…this year is starting pretty good forCommon ground, we are busy, and that’s a good thing..Chuck, thanks for the opportunity to tell everyone about the band…

Jesse

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

The following article was written by a guest contributor. Names have been changed to protect the guilty.

I am a man that is fixin’ to get sideways with someone. I would like someone to explain this situation to me, because I am F@#%@^# lost. I sat down the other day to do someone’s taxes fer them, now keep in mind I am like all of you, I get my ass out of bed and go to work. But this over achiever is drawing disability, now I want you to know that there is some that truly need it. But this guy could mow a yard, milk a BULL, and kick a man’s ass without ever spillin’ his F@#%@# beer. I tell ya right now it smokes my clams to know (by his tax papers) that he is pulling down put near $75,000 a year for a back ache. He gets a check and he gets a check for each of his kids and his wife gets one fer havin’ to stay home to help his back ache. Now I am talking about none, zippo, work being required, he is paid by our government (by the way that is yours and my taxes) to survive. Now chew on that fer awhile, and PLEASE explain to me how doing nuttin’ and sittin’ home with a back ache gets paid far more than I do bustin’ my ass at work. Something is wrong wit this picture and I need you to straighten it out fer me. I am just glad I can help the poor soul out.

This Just In … Aretha Franklin Blows Off Evansville … Cancels Benefit Concert

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

aretha1She canceled due to low ticket sales. The Reitz class of 1975 was promoting the show  and it was to benefit the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corp’s PTA clothing bank. So I guess to everyone that would have been benefited from her appearance will instead get no R.E.S.P.E.C.T. from her. She should have stuck to her commitment and did the show anyway even if it was a smaller show. Any amount of money made is better than none. They could have moved the show to the Center and made it a more intimate setting… I just wonder, did she do the Presidential inauguration for free? Anyone know? Was the President more important than homeless people that need clothes?

The Ice Storm Of The Century?

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

e

Wow what an ice storm and one over used catch phrase. I’m sure we all in the Tri-State area were effected by it in one way or another and here at Kick Acts, it wasn’t any different. Al and I both lost power at our homes, so there weren’t any updates for a few days. Well, now that the power is back on, the virtual presses here at Kick Acts are up and running again at full speed. So keep looking for new reviews/interviews and reports from all of us here at Kick Acts!! And remember , if you got a story to share, well, share it with us all and we’ll put it up…OK?

I am including a photo of the utility worker that was hooking up my power line Wednesday afternoon so I could turn the heat back on. These guys worked and are still working 24/7 to restore power to everyone. These guys are heroes. Two thumbs up !!!

Let us know how you made it through the storm … OK?

Power Or No Power!

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

What a difference a little time can make in someone’s life. I know that most of everyone has electric, heat, and water back by now but there are plenty of people still in dire need of help. It has been a very tiring week for Crusaders Set Free Church. With all the troubles from the ice storm, thousands of people were without all the comforts that we are accustom to. God bless T-bone and Mel for their compassion for people. Webster County was without power until Sunday night. Several families had no where to go for assistance (as many other places). I got an e-mail from T-bone Friday night telling me that they needed help in Sebree (food, diapers etc.) Saturday. By one in the afternoon, we had three truckloads of stuff to take down there to help out the community, not counting the two loads taken the two days before. We got there Saturday afternoon and began to grill hot dogs and hamburgers and sorted out food baskets to distribute throughout the community. We went door to door checking on people and making sure that they had what they needed. Several people refused, saying others were more desperate. Others accepted it graciously. It would bring you to tears seeing some of this stuff. There were some homes that had as many as 23 people in one home (although some refer to Sebree as “Little Mexico” these were Americans as well.) You could see the desperation in their eyes, you could feel that at any given time some were about to explode. When you see 6 and 7 year old kids sitting in vehicles to stay warm and get so excited that they were getting some food because they haven’t eaten for two days, or babies wrapped in towels because they had no diapers you can’t help but to feel compassion for these people. We didn’t go down to pity these people, we went down to show compassion. To show them God’s love. We didn’t go down for our glory but that the glory of God might shine through. I went by my buddy’s house on Tuesday and he, like many others, was without electricity. He proceded to tell me how humbling it was to be without utilities and how he had no distractions and was able to read his Bible and his big book. He is a devout christian and he walks in faith. The next day I checked on him and he was doing well still in high spirits, by Thursday you could start seeing a change. By Friday the change (not for the better) could be seen and heard by everyone. By the time Sunday rolled around he was fit to be tied. Monday he was furious, but then came Tuesday, a brand new day for my buddy, praise God he had electric. After all that, he looked back and said, “You know Deacon, it wasn’t all that bad.” You know, he was right. One thing we have to keep in mind is that we need to prepare for the storm before it happens. Although preparation for a tornado, ice storm, snow storm etc. is very important we also need to prepare for spiritual storms and be ready when the enemy attacks. We need to be prayed up, read up on God’s word, and be willing to fight the good fight. Although we had advance warning for the ice storm, most of the time, we have no warning for our spiritual storm. Be ready for a storm from all aspects of your life at all times! This will not be the last and certainly not the most devastating thing ou will ever encounter. Until next time, God bless, Deacon.

AC/DC concert review!! Anyone that plays needs to read this too …

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Angus & RosieWow what a show is the first thing  I can say! From the word GO! They ruled the stage. A totally professional act in all areas. But first I have to mention the opening act “The Answer”. They are a rock band from Ireland that is touring with AC/DC on this leg of the tour. They have a tough gig considering the main act hasn’t been out for eight years and the world is wanting to see them!! But “The Answer” rocks!! I can only describe them as a combination of Led Zeppelin met Nazareth in an alley and they had kids. Good guitar player and singer kids that is!! Good classic music with those Dan McCafferty type vocals. Now to the main event! I have seen AC/DC several times before and they never fail to deliver the goods. These guys know how to put on a show. From the opening chords of  their new single “Runaway Train” from their current album “Black Ice” until the final encore “For Those About To Rock” it was a non stop balls out rock n roll show!  AC/DC is setting themselves up to be the largest grossing concert of 2008 and 2009. Their shows sell out in just minutes. I had the pleasure of going to Nashville with my son Josh and Brittany, one of my daughters’, and her husband Zack. My childhood friend David Lutz also went with his wife and another friend. David had closer seats so I slipped him my cheap Kodak camera and he snapped off the photos I am using for this article.

For Those About To RockBack to AC/DC. If you missed it, well, your loss. You should have gone. They are one of the few remaining bands that really know how to do it right. They played almost all of their hits and some new ones too.  I don’t want to give away too much of it but they brought along Rosie, the AC/DC bell, a huge locomotive and those kick ass cannons!!

As I watched them on stage, as a fellow musician, I tend to watch everything. From how they stand, to hand ques, roadies running around behind the set  … etc. You get the picture. The thing I think young bands including garage bands like the ones I play in is that there is a time and place for everything but there also should be “respect”. Granted AC/DC has been playing since 1974, their shows run like a well oiled machine. When Brian Johnson is singing, he is up front and entertaining. No one steps into his moment. When there is a vocal break and a guitar solo comes up, Angus goes to the front of the stage and tears the guitar up. While he is doing this, the rest of the band is behind him but not stepping on his turn. When the guitar only needs Malcolm’s powerful rhythm, Angus is out of the way and letting his brother shine. This respect carried on for the Bass player Cliff and drummer Phil too. No one in that band had to step in out of turn for ego’s sake to “show off”. The music breathed on its own and was allowed to. They made it seem easy and really it is if you think about it. As a band, whether a touring band or a garage band, take your place and play your parts and not step out and step on every one else’s stuff. I see it all the time. I have been guilty of it too so I’m not throwing stones. I am taking this to heart too.

Angus YoungAnd one other thing before I go. AC/DC puts most bands half their age to shame. These guys are in their mid fifties and older but they kicked it hard for two hours. So for you young rockers out there, step aside and let the real guys show you how it’s done. If  you missed the show, buy the concert DVD when it comes out and see what I mean about kicking ass. They didn’t use any backing tracks/sampling  or extra musicians hid behind the stage like a lot of touring bands do. It was just those five guys and a wall of sound!! The way Rock and Roll was meant to be!!

Rock & Roll Train

For those about to ROCK!! We salute you!!
