bo-derek-10-running-244In 1979, this  poster was everywhere. At 25, Bo derek was the next Farrah Fawcett? Or so it seems. There was the iconic scene in the movie 10 that shows her running down the beach in slow motion. Some people thought the movie was the worst movie of 1979 but it did catapult her into the limelight. Married to John Derek, a guy that was 30 years her senior. He basically invented Bo Derek. In Hollywood, I guess anything is possible. They remained married for 22 years until his death in 1998. After the movie 10, Bo Derek appeared in two issues of Playboy magazine and made a few more movies and then disappeared from the scene. Now 35 years after “10”,  long gone are the corn rows she wore but at 58 years old Bo Derek  and still stunning and reflecting back on her life…

The 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA

From Wikipedia:

Duckworth was working towards a PhD in political science at Northern Illinois University with research interests in the political economy and public health in southeast Asia when she was deployed to Iraq in 2004. Duckworth lost her right leg near the hip and her left leg below the knee from injuries sustained on November 12, 2004, when the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter she was co-piloting was hit by a rocket propelled grenade fired by Iraqi insurgents. She is the first female double amputee from the Iraq war. The explosion “almost completely destroyed her right arm, breaking it in three places and tearing tissue from the back side of it.” Duckworth received a Purple Heart on December 3 and was promoted to Major on December 21 at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, where she was presented with an Air Medal and Army Commendation Medal.
