These guys (and girl) aren’t a bad band at all. Got kinda a “fun” sound to them. I really dig the “everybody talks” video. Check it out below. Tickets are still available for tomorrow night’s show (April 12th) at the Ford Center in Evansville Indiana.

What the Hell has Cassidy Fellows-Sommers been up to?

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Back in 2009 I had the pleasure of interviewing a very entertaining female impersonator  Cassidy Fellows-Sommers. She allowed me to ask all the tough questions that straight people want to know without any Bias, judgement or negativity. I recently caught back up with her to find out what the hell she has been up to!I have to say Cass is one class act and my wife and I have been meaning to hop over to Evansville and catch a show one of these weekends and hope to see her there when she is in town!

Cassidy 3CassidyHey there! Thanks for wondering “What the hell Cassidy Fellows-Sommers has been up to!” A lot has happened since I was interviewed with Kick Acts, and I am happy to report things are going great! Since we were last in contact my world has complete changed. I started pursuing a healthier lifestyle and after lots of hard work and dedication I have managed to lose nearly 200 pounds through diet and a solid excersize routine. In 2010, I competed in a local competition in Evansville, IN and was crowned Miss Brickhouse. After acheiving that title, I pursued the title of Miss Gay Evansville and lost by one point to an entertainer from Indianapolis, but qualified to compete at the state contest later that fall. To my surprise, I was able to go on and capture the title of Miss Gay Indiana 2010. Winning that title was the beginning of a fantastic journey for me. In the 35 years this competition has been in existance, there has never been a Miss Gay Indiana from Evansville.

Traveling to all of the required preliminary contests across the state was going to be a real struggle when Evansville was my home, and in my professional career grants were becoming increasingly more difficult to find to continue funding the work I do. I began looking into possible career opportunities in Indianapolis and was amazed when I stumbled across a perfect fit with The Damien Center, Indiana’s oldest and largest AIDS Service Organization. Within two weeks of applying for the position, I was offered the job and relocated north to Indianapolis. Living in Indy made my reign much easier as I traveled to Terre Haute, Bloomington, Ft. Wayne, Muncie, Evansville and other destinations as they held their own contests to select representatives to compete for MGI 2011.

BlueI have had the opportunity to entertain at many bars and nightclubs across the state and continue to travel extensively to do bookings at my favorite locations. I am honored to work at Indiana’s premier showbar (Talbot Street Showlounge) several times a year as well. Recently, Uncle Elizabeth’s Bar in Bloomington, IN approached me about starting my own show on the first Saturday of each month and I gladly accepted. The show is called “Viva Variety” and features a different theme and cast each month. April 6th’s show is “Uncle E’s Laugh-In” featuring comedy acts, and the May show will be “Let’s Get Soakin’ Wet” with an amateur strip/wet boxer contest. In addition to my work as a performer, I continue to promote the MGI system and serve as the Vice-President of the Board formed by former Miss Gay Indianas to keep the system alive and thriving. I participate as a performer, hostess and competition judge as needed and love helping new entertainers to learn the skills of the trade.

I look forward to staying busy with both my professional career as a social servant and as a female impersonator on the weekends!
I once again thank you for your interest in what I am doing, and will continue to stay connected with the other acts featured in your magazine!

Cass 🙂

What the hell has AKACIA been up to?

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Somewhere between 5’7″ and 6’8,” depending on the night and how many beers have been consumed. Rock Gods to some…mere band guys to others. There’s babies, a few new axes, cables and I’m sure Joel has added some little trinket to his monster drum kit, or at least he’s planning to. Chuck, I dig the new feature. I think you should do the same feature for the local watering holes and entertainment facilities. (editor chuck says…cool idea 🙂

AKACIA was and is a happy going, rockin band. Smiles all around. You have to love it when everyone falls into that musical pocket where there can be no harm done, riding on the edge of the tune and leaning back onto the groove. Sometimes you go with it, let it ride and other times you hammer away for Valhalla, no holds barred. Not much has changed, besides the ever-addition of songs and the continuing practice of the ol’chops. Nah, seriously though, booking and networking have reached new levels, which is beneficial to all involved. We have some pretty cool gigs coming up. Sunday, March 10, 5pm at Backstage with the Easter Seals. It’s an all ages show up til 9pm, so I can’t be saying fuck this and that…not like I do anyways. All ages shows are fun. It’s not everyday we older, somewhat wise musicians have the opportunity to shape the young minds of the future. Til 9pm…then everything is game. Hey, AKACIA is happy to be a part of the benefit. We’re always up for helping local/regional charities. And on that note…April 20 is the Battle of Bands for the Rockin River City Ride. AKACIA will be supplying some tunes and emceeing the event for the second year in a row. Thursday, July 18, takes AKACIA to the Shawneetown Street Rally. There’s a few other ‘large scale’ gigs in the works too.

In the meantime, you can find AKACIA at your favorite hang out: Evansville, Henderson, Owensboro, Jasper, Mt. Carmel, Grayville, any place that will have us. If not, then you can make it happen. AKACIA does not discriminate. Book and ye shall receive. AKACIA will continue doing what we do, Rocking and Delivering ever night. Making the butts move and the fists pound! Afternoons not always guaranteed. Joel always says, “any self respecting musician is not up by noon.”

We also like to have the occasional “Like-A-Thon” on Facebook. Cheesy, I know. But hey, no need to wait for another Like-A-Thon, just type us in, act know and share with all your friends. No charge to you. The more, the merrier. We’ll even throw in the shipping. And while you’re there, check out all the bitchin pics from our shows and AKACIA’s current and past schedules. We’ve got some Rockin to do.

What the Hell has “Matt Camp” been up to?

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

mc_nI am playing with some amazing musicians in a cover band called Blame the Radio, it’s really taking off. Also, I still teach two days a week at Guitar Lab but may have to go to three soon. Have a lot of great students.

Finally I have been writing again (finally) and hope to follow up the Calling Corners with a new EP soon! May be CC, may be something completely new. Other musicians on album are still TBD though……but there have been talks……

thanks for askin!
