Otto the Comic R.I.P. Here’s his words of wisdom to ALL OF US.

The first time I saw Otto was when I was adding Facebook friends and his profile jumped up in the suggested friends thing . His profile picture reminded me of a cross between Jerry Lewis, Buddy Holly and Elvis Costello so I clicked on it. I read thru his posts and found him to be an interesting person so I shot him a private message and asked if he would allow me to interview him. He said yes I could. That was in October of 2011. Though we never met in real life we developed an internet friendship and I started adding other features about Otto. He shared his families pizza crust recipe. He shared his childhood Christmas stories about getting a bike and other things. He checked in from time to time and we kept in touch. When I did a follow up story about him, he had just received word he had cancer….Otto laid it all out in the open. Always Optimistic. He was forth coming about his treatments and progress. He didn’t hold anything back.
He checked in with me on my birthday. He didn’t press “1” on his phone like we all do to put the “fake” happy birthday notice on someone’s facebook page…He PM’d me this instead.

He got better at first and then the cancer came back. I followed his blog. I tried to remember as best as I could the 11:11 good vibe thing he asked for. When I did, I asked the Lord to be with him. We touched bases briefly in 2014 but I knew he was hurting so I didn’t bother him much. I, along with many of his friends posted good thoughts and encouragements to him. He was always thankful for the “food Angels” that helped him with purchasing food.
I awoke this morning and Otto crossed my mind again. Not sure why at first but now I know why. I had recently read where he was in lot of pain and his pain meds weren’t helping. I went to Otto’s Facebook page today and saw were he had passed away yesterday. 🙁 I feel very sad. Otto lost the fight. Or did he? He gave it his best shot. Probably fought harder than most of us could. He gave encouragement to us when he really needed encouragement himself from us. Folks, that’s not a selfish person. I only knew him via the internet and will miss him. To those of you that knew him in real life, I have no doubt you have lost one helluva a gentle kind man.
Otto, though a comedian in real life made us laugh. He left us with a world’s worth of wisdom. This was his motto. He lived it. We should too.
“BE NICE to as many people as you can. It’s absolutely free. I’ll be nice to you, and you’ll be nice to me. Just like tag – if we start tonight, tomorrow with be a better world.”

What the Hell has Cassidy Fellows-Sommers been up to?

Back in 2009 I had the pleasure of interviewing a very entertaining female impersonator Cassidy Fellows-Sommers. She allowed me to ask all the tough questions that straight people want to know without any Bias, judgement or negativity. I recently caught back up with her to find out what the hell she has been up to!I have to say Cass is one class act and my wife and I have been meaning to hop over to Evansville and catch a show one of these weekends and hope to see her there when she is in town!

Hey there! Thanks for wondering “What the hell Cassidy Fellows-Sommers has been up to!” A lot has happened since I was interviewed with Kick Acts, and I am happy to report things are going great! Since we were last in contact my world has complete changed. I started pursuing a healthier lifestyle and after lots of hard work and dedication I have managed to lose nearly 200 pounds through diet and a solid excersize routine. In 2010, I competed in a local competition in Evansville, IN and was crowned Miss Brickhouse. After acheiving that title, I pursued the title of Miss Gay Evansville and lost by one point to an entertainer from Indianapolis, but qualified to compete at the state contest later that fall. To my surprise, I was able to go on and capture the title of Miss Gay Indiana 2010. Winning that title was the beginning of a fantastic journey for me. In the 35 years this competition has been in existance, there has never been a Miss Gay Indiana from Evansville.
Traveling to all of the required preliminary contests across the state was going to be a real struggle when Evansville was my home, and in my professional career grants were becoming increasingly more difficult to find to continue funding the work I do. I began looking into possible career opportunities in Indianapolis and was amazed when I stumbled across a perfect fit with The Damien Center, Indiana’s oldest and largest AIDS Service Organization. Within two weeks of applying for the position, I was offered the job and relocated north to Indianapolis. Living in Indy made my reign much easier as I traveled to Terre Haute, Bloomington, Ft. Wayne, Muncie, Evansville and other destinations as they held their own contests to select representatives to compete for MGI 2011.
I have had the opportunity to entertain at many bars and nightclubs across the state and continue to travel extensively to do bookings at my favorite locations. I am honored to work at Indiana’s premier showbar (Talbot Street Showlounge) several times a year as well. Recently, Uncle Elizabeth’s Bar in Bloomington, IN approached me about starting my own show on the first Saturday of each month and I gladly accepted. The show is called “Viva Variety” and features a different theme and cast each month. April 6th’s show is “Uncle E’s Laugh-In” featuring comedy acts, and the May show will be “Let’s Get Soakin’ Wet” with an amateur strip/wet boxer contest. In addition to my work as a performer, I continue to promote the MGI system and serve as the Vice-President of the Board formed by former Miss Gay Indianas to keep the system alive and thriving. I participate as a performer, hostess and competition judge as needed and love helping new entertainers to learn the skills of the trade.
I look forward to staying busy with both my professional career as a social servant and as a female impersonator on the weekends!

Damn, no one wants to hear that. As you remember I interviewed Otto a few months ago and he contributed to Kickacts with his own brand of humor and style which I found enlightening and refreshing. He is someone that looks at life differently than most of us. He shared with us about his favorite childhood bike memories and what he needed if he was stranded on an island among other things. And he also included his favorite family pizza crust recipe.
Otto did what many of us wish we had the balls to do at any age. He quit his job to become a full time Comedian. No longer settling for doing it on the side and keeping his day job…So he did what his heart really desired to do. He was all in. WE only get one shot at life anyway and how many of us live it without really “living”? Most of us including me get up and go to jobs and lives we hate everyday… I think Sting said it so true in song ” Synchronicity”,
Another working day has ended
Only the rush hour hell to face
Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes
Contestants in a suicidal race
Daddy grips the wheel and stares alone into the distance
He knows that something somewhere has to break
So Otto did it. That’s a stand up guy in anyone’s book. He didn’t walk out on his family or anything like that. He made his money in the restaurant business and now it’s his turn. Doing what he wants to do and doing well with it…
Then came the “c” word… And as he says ” I guess I’m in the system now”… not making light of it but we each deal with things differently. Otto goes on to say, “I hope to give a different side of the cancer treatment story .. so far the “industry ” is super evil… i don’t want to offend anyone who has cancer, it’s bad enough just having it …”
He also hasn’t stop performing. He’s not gonna let him get down.
So a long with his comedic sense of humor he is also dealing with Doctors’ wanting to cut on him, no air conditioner in his car and recently a gig with a Burlesque variety show. How hard can that be? Let Otto tell you himself. You won’t be disappointed. He started his own blog. In his own comedic sense he is sharing his thoughts, concerns, and his shows. So go with him on his journey. Share the ride. Laugh with him, and let him encourage you. Encourage him also, we all are human and could use it from time to time.
