Funeral plots for penniless Artists who couldn’t afford a grave. Seems he did this several years ago and that Johnny Paycheck was one of the great artists’ that benefited from the kindness of George. God Bless you George for your gracious and kindness toward your fellow man.

George Jones was buried Thursday afternoon at Woodlawn Cemetery near Thompson Lane, but there will be plenty of other musicians right there with him – thanks to a decision Jones made several years ago.

“Generous George Jones” was not one of his many nicknames, but it was the rock-solid truth.

As Jones was taken from the Opry House one last time, it’s impossible not to remark on one of his most private, generous acts that many of his close friends never knew about.

Jones had purchased 30 cemetery plots at Woodlawn Cemetery to give to artists who die penniless.

“That’s what a lot of people don’t know. They don’t know that side of him,” said former band member Rod Gaddis.

“Unbelievable. I love George Jones like you wouldn’t believe,” said former band member James Holly.

Grand Ole Opry member Johnny Paycheck is also buried at Woodlawn Cemetery – one of Jones’ friends is now a neighbor thanks to Jones’ generosity.

KickActs interviews JackSlacks

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Special thanks goes out to James Lowe for the interview!

Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and your band and were you can be found at on the web.

Hey, I’m Jackslacks a drummer and singer/songwriter from San Diego, CA

Our website is: www.reverbnation.com/jackslacks

Can buy our music at: https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/jackslacks/id291028570

JS Farm Jazz

Who are your musical heroes, influences & why?

Carl Perkins-legendary Sun Records rockabilly singer / guitarist, wrote and performed ‘Blue Suade Shoes’, ‘Matchbox’, ‘Put Your Cat Clothes On’, and many others.

John Lennon-Beatle was amazing vocalist, rhythm guitarist and songwriter. Helped to change world culture…peace & love.

Beach Boys-Brian Wilson amazing vocalist and songwriter / producer and arranger. Epitomizes the Southern California life style.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in playing music? Any pitfalls they should avoid?

Stay true to yourself!

Do you have a greatest gig story you’d like to share?

One time I opened for Morrisey in Tijuana, Mexico. Very strange gig…

On the same token as the above question. How about a “worse gig” ever story.

All the ‘exposure shows’ waiting around some dive bar or venue with 3 or 4 other bands only to go up and play a set and then tear down as fast as possible. Just as ugly: most ‘door’ gigs.

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of boobs?

I do love boobies! Yeah, I’m an avid jogger, play basketball and love to body surf.

What do you think about the present music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

San Diego always has had great venue’s that promote original music.

Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear… Like their hobbies or something like that…

Eric Hutchinson, our guitarist,  teaches kids drums. Dave Votel our bassist plays in a jazz combo. Alejandro Aste-Nieto our piano player is a great guitarist who fronts his own band.

Hypothetical situation. You’re stranded on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up with only one of the girls… Is it Ginger, Mary Ann or Mrs. Howell and why?

Mrs Howell? That’s creepy…personally I’d like to see Ginger get it on with Mary Ann.

. # 10 is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

Look for Jackslacks new CD ‘Generations Hypnotized’ due out May 1, 2013 on indie label Shield Of Love.
