The Hennepin County Medical Examiner in Minnesota has confirmed that Scott Weiland died of an accidental drug overdose.
Weiland, former frontman with Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, was found dead inside a bus on Dec. 3 while on tour with his new band the Wildabouts in Bloomington, Minn. The new report determines that a combination of cocaine, ethanol and the amphetamine MDA stopped his heart.
Weiland had a history of cardiovascular disease, as well as asthma and multi-substance dependence, the medical examiner noted. (His many run-ins with the law included a 1995 arrest with crack and heroin, and a guilty plea for felony heroin possession two years later.) The report places Weiland time of death at 8:27PM.
