About Fred, your class Instructor:

Hey guys, I would like to take this opportunity to give you some information on Kentucky Carry Conceal Deadly Weapons (CCDW). My name is Fred Bassett and I am a State Certified Concealed Carry Instructor. First, I would like to say that I feel all Kentuckians should exercise their right and obligation to carry. You and/or your families life may very well depend on it someday. Remember, when seconds count, help is just minutes away.
On the day of the class you will need to bring, a pistol of your choice, it can be either a semi- auto or revolver. However, it must be in good working condition, fully functional and safe to shoot. Caliber is not important, however I do suggest you try to keep the caliber smaller or bring the weapon you plan on carrying. The day of the qualification is not the day to show off your large calibers nor try to imitate “Dirty Harry”. You need to be very familiar with this weapon and be able to show you can strip it down and clean it, as this will be required as part of your certification. When bringing the weapon to class, also insure that the weapon is UNLOADED and no magazines are in the weapon. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO INSURE THE SAFETY OF YOU AND YOUR CLASSMATES! Next you will need 50 rounds of ammo, and a small cleaning kit for that caliber. You will also need to bring eye and ear protection. You will be required to pay for the class on the day of instruction. Classes range from $75 to $85, depending on the location and facility fees.
After successfully completing the class your instructor will submit the required paperwork along with the necessary fees to the state for review and qualification. After about 4 to 6 weeks, you will receive a packet in the mail containing your certification and submission instructions. Read all instructions carefully! Any items left out or submitted wrong will prolong the process. You will take all the required documents and photos to the Sheriff’s office in your County, along with $60 cash. They will then send that paperwork off to be approved and a background check. After acceptance is granted, usually about 4 to 8 weeks, you will receive notice that your permit is ready to be picked up. You must then go to the Sheriff’s office in person to pick up your permit. The permit is good for 5 years and you do not have to repeat the class upon renewal.concealed carry
