Comments From An Iraq War Veteran

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Editor’s note: This interview is anonymous at the request of the interviewee.

First off, the staff here at Kick Acts deeply appreciates all members and branches of the military and your commitment to our security. It’s men and women like you protect this great nation that make us very proud. We salute you.

1.  What was your first impression of Iraq?

After all the training we went through, some of us that hadn’t been there before were real nervous at first.

2. Is it anything like we see over here on TV in the United States?

I dont think it is. All these newscasters that say they’re there really aren’t. They’re standing in front of a green screen and talking shit.

3. Do you think the U.S. news media is/was biased or non-biased of its coverage of the war?

From what I saw, they were on both sides but they are all pissed and think we are they for the wrong reasons. The thing is that they only get part of the story cause it is OPSEC (operational secturity) and if they know they could put us in more danger than what we are already in.

4. How did it affect the morale of you and your fellow soldiers?

I think it let a lot of us more or less know how valuable life really is and not to take anything for granted.

5. How important was it to get care packages or did you receive any at all?

When anybody got care packages, it was a lot like Christmas because we would get what we wanted and what we needed and everyone shared. We were like a bunch of kids.

6. What did you do to let off some of the steam when you weren’t on duty?

I would blow of my steam by going to the gym.

7. What was the scariest moment you experienced over there?

The scariest moment for me was when the lead truck and second truck took a blast from an IED. I was in the back and didn’t have very good communication with any of the trucks in the front and didn’t really know for sure that everyone was alright.

8. Would you like to address the anti-war people here in the United States that said the war was a waste of time and unwinnable?

In some points they are right. We are not going to stop those dumbass people from fighting each other because it’s all they know how to do. I mean, they’ve been at war for thousand of years and we are not going to stop them. The main reason we’re there is to show them that they can’t bring that shit into our home and we will put a stop to it, one way or another.

9. Do you think our commander in chief did a good job?

I think he made a big decision and stood behind it the whole time he was in office. We haven’t had really any more problems on the home front since we went over there, other than the economy.

10. Here’s where you get to answer a question we didn’t ask. We call this section of the interview “Shout It Out Loud” where you get to say whatever you want.

If I was single, I would go back in a heart beat. I can’t say it’s fun but you get to do stuff that you can’t really do here every day. I’m all for staying there as long as we need. If we pull out now I think it could be a bad thing for America. I was in Iraq for a year and it was in a lot better shape when we left than whe we got there. I can’t say a whole lot about the Afganistan war other than it’s gonna be a long time before we get everyone out of there, if ever.

AIG Are Thieves … Mr. President, the Honeymoon is over now do something.

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

aigAIG or American International Group, Inc as it is known is one of several companies that have asked the United States Federal Government to bail them out during this financial crisis we are all suffering through. According to Wikipedia The United States has given them over 170 BILLION dollars to help shore up the company. Well, my American friends, that money came from you and me in reality not the Government. You and I paying taxes is exactly where it came from. The question now is was AIG responsible with the money they received? I’ll leave that up to you but so far AIG has handed out 165 million in Executive bonuses to their employees. 165 million … Did you read that right? 73 of their Executive employees received over 1 million dollars each in bonuses. 7 of their employees received over 4 million dollars each and out of those 73 so far 11 have quit after receiving their bonuses. Basically they have jumped off a sinking ship and took the loot with them. One Executive got a 6.4 million dollar bonus. While our friends are getting laid off right and left, including my wife, these assholes are getting their bonuses and then quitting. So in closing … Mr. President, ultimately you signed off on this bailout for AIG  and the others including the automobile industry. It’s your job to correct this major mistake. I would hate to think about all the people that would be let go if AIG failed, but in reality I have no one at my door asking me if they can pay off all of my debts because I can’t manage my money so as American citizens we have a right to be PISSED and demand our Leader to do something about this… so there … comments and opinions are welcome …

Here is my source for the article … http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/03/17/aig.bonuses/index.html

Bring Trish Back To WABX

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

On the same day that we posted the “Getting Naked With Trish Knight” article, we learned that she’d been relieved of her duties at the station. As far as we’re concerned, Trish Knight is the reason WABX is so popular. We have started a petition for folks to sign so we can let the station know how folks feel about her dismissal. Please take a moment and sign it. http://www.kickacts.com/petition/

Getting Naked With Trish Knight From W.A.B.X.

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

gettinnaked12

Trish Knight from WABX 107. 5

1) You’ve been a DJ at WABX for as long as I can remember. Have you been there from the beginning? Is it the only station you’ve ever worked for?

Yes…12 years now with WABX. I got this gig while working at WIKY. I was there 5 years prior to the conception of WABX.

Sexiest DJ on the planet!

Sexiest DJ on the planet!

2) Being a radio personality and a female has to have its drawbacks. Have you ever had issues with listeners “going too far”?

Only one and that was our 1st year on air so I don’t think it really counts…I had to knee a guy at the Thunder on the Ohio beerstube (you might remember a great band from Chicago called “Gizzae” or not…but they were very cool.)…sorry to that guy…but he wouldn’t back up! We all need space now and then.

Other than that…nothing. Thanks to my size, I’m sure.

3) When Aerosmith and Cheap Trick came to town, you were the DJ selected by the limo ride winner to join them in the skybox. There are other events that the station did like this. Tell us some of your favorite moments from doing this kind of stuff.

That was one of the best times…plus dinner at Outback! Thanks again ANTHONY! The entire party rocked!!

At another Aerosmith show, Steven Tyler kissed me on the cheek and I accidently stepped on Joe Perry’s toe. Sorry Joe. He didn’t look real happy about it…all the guys signed my very faded Get Your Wings album. I felt so rock and roll…minus the stepping on Joe Perry’s toe thing, of course.

Any bus trip that I was able to join in on makes the list…they are always a blast. Most recently, AC/DC at Conseco for the Black Ice Tour…holy geez those guys haven’t lost a thing!! Any Workforce Rocker that was on that bus trip would back me on that. Right?!

In a limo for Roger Waters at Verizon Wireless Music Center in Noblesville, IN. Thanks Barry, a.k.a. Sammy Hagar!!

Rosie Getting A Piece Of Phil Rudd4) You recently quit smoking, how’s that going for you?

Soooo much better than expected. It’s almost a year-and-a-half now and I still want one. I hear that feeling never goes away. Bummer! And just about everyday I thank God for making me a non-smoker. Unfortunately, I think once and addict always an addict may apply to the smoking habit…it’s a bitch, man. Sorry I cussed, but you had to ask.

Does anyone have….just kidding.

5) Who do you look up to in radio?

Joe Blair hired me at WIKY in 1992, thanks to Brenda Whitney. She was PD for WJPS (oldies) then. Thanks Joe and Brenda!!

Ferran McCree will always be my girl. Mainly for her attitude and love…that girl is friends with all that is good in the world. Even though she isn’t heard on the airwaves, she is still my dear friend!!

Trish & Friend6) What’s your opinion about radio stations having syndicated celebrity DJ’s like Alice Cooper, Rick Dee’s, or Dee Snider instead of hiring local overnight DJ’s? Do you think it hurts DJ’s that are just starting out and are not ready for the dayshift drive time and need the experience?

I never thought of it like that before. This has all gone so fast and is a completely different monster than it was 17 years ago. Of course, with the economy the way it is, I think it’s the only choice for a lot of stations…with or without the coin and time to shape new talent. I’ve seen a lot of talent leave this market because there just wasn’t enough money to pay them what they are worth. That is only MY opinion. I love Alice’s show though. He is not a “radio voice” at all but no one can beat those stories, you know?

Trish & Sean @ AC/DC In Indy7) In keeping with our questions that we ask musicians, what’s the greatest “remote” you have ever done?

I know there was a lot of exciting ones for me personally, but naming a specific one off the top of my head….impossible.
Wait…I remember a remote I did for a WWE ticket thing at Robert’s Stadium. Even though those kids (of all ages) had been up all night (waiting for tix to go on sale), they were so very way cool. Little things like that make this job great. The people, the people…and not in a Sybil way.

Any remote with CLOWNS…I love balloon animals!!!

8) And in the same vein, what’s the worst remote you have done?

All the ones where everyone wants the world and all you have is you…t-shirt, not good enough…etc. That’s always a bummer to me because WABX is my heart and soul…next to the obvious family and friend answer. So I do get a bit upset when someone doesn’t want a WABX something.

9) In your line of work, you get to meet a lot of Rock Stars. What artists have you met that just totally floored you in the sense that they totally weren’t what you were expecting.

I never had expectations meeting anyone. Mainly because, I never really get to meet a lot of rock stars. I wish I were around when djs were djs and worth something, and then I wouldn’t be able to start rambling at this time. Remember when everyone/rock act came to Evansville? If only I were a dj then. That would have seriously rocked. (Side note: Jimi Hendrix was at the stadium in…1969, I think…we’d have to ask Pat…he was front row. Hangin’ with Jimi back stage and taking in the genius…

Then there’s Led Zeppelin on any damn tour. I can see it now; becoming buddies with John Bonham and cruising with him all the time in that Trans Am…

Woooo…pull the reigns! I’m sure I would have frozen up like a Brady in front of the camera.

However, Kenny Wayne Shepherd…I loved him in concert but he came off as a true punk kid.

10) Do friends and family always ask for free tickets or passes to concerts, etc.? If so, does it get old?

Always and no. If they don’t ask, I won’t know if they want them. Most of the time, they know I can’t accommodate anyway…that makes it easier on all of us.

11. We would like to give you a chance to talk about what ever you would like to share to our readers about. Here’s your chance to “get Neked” with them.

“A Get Naked” I loved Methods of Mayhem…Tommy Lee side project. Mean ass, bad ass tracks. Check that out when you get a chance. Being VIP (not because of radio) for Ozzfest 2000 was soooo…..Methods were there and it was a beyond belief show.

Since becoming a mom, I’m easier to offend. When it comes to children, the world, animals, people and their feelings don’t hurt anyone. It’s not cool and it’s not right. I do believe in the good Lord and that if it wasn’t for him I would not have so many blessings to count on a daily basis. He gave me Floyd…the love of my life. Because of that we get to chill with Evie Rae daily. I could never, ever complain…but I will, I’m sure, because if I were perfect, I would make myself and everyone around me sick.

Don’t be mean, even if it’s because you are a mean person. I don’t buy that crap. Get a life and start counting those blessings that could be taken from you at any time! The pretty flowers, a hot guy/chick, a Jolly Rancher…the list goes on and on.

Bonus question: How close was WKRP to portraying a typical radio station and Is Shawn Roberts more like Herb Tarlek, Doctor Johnny Fever, Venus Flytrap or Les Nessman? And give us the reasons why.

Not this station. I work in a fine oiled machine-type atmosphere almost all of the time. I’m just glad they don’t mind me squeaking every now and then.

Sean fits all the above…Fever for his absolute, I did that…and he did. Venus for the this is me, dig attitude. Les for the “I’m on it”…but he actually is and it’s pretty cool.

Download An Album, Go To Prison?

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Federal prosecutors in Los Angeles are pursuing a 6-month prison term for a Los Angeles man who pleaded guilty in December to one misdemeanor count of uploading pre-release Guns N’ Roses tracks, according to court documents.

I’ve been following these articles about digital rights management (or as I prefer to call it, digital restriction management) and “illegal downloading” and all the other garbage that the music industry is regurgitating in an effort to maintain their cartel. The article linked above takes the cake.

While the guy that leaked the Chinese Democracy album does deserve some form of punishment, I think 6 months in prison is an over the top bully tactic for both the government and the recording industry, especially considering the “crime” he committed is considered a misdemeanor. It seems to me that a fine of a couple hundred dollars is a bit more reasonable than prison time. Hell, you’d be better off going to Best Buy and stealing it from there. The punishment for getting caught would be much less severe and you wouldn’t have the stigma of having been in prison on your record.

Times are changing and the music cartel doesn’t want to evolve. What scares them most is that with digital distribution, music consumers can pick and choose the songs they want as opposed to being force fed the filler music you find on most releases. I’ve found that the people I know that purchase music on iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody, etc. actually spend more money because since they’re picking only the songs they want, they’re buying more songs. The phrase “you can’t see the forest for the trees” rings true here.

The bottom line is that the Internet has changed the way the music industry operates, whether they like it or not and it would be in their best interest to find a way to use some form of digital distribution to their advantage.

We Are Not Promised Tomorrow

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Does everyone have a death sentence? Do you have a certain time to die? Are we promised tomorrow? These are some questions that I have been asked the last couple of days. Before we go any further let tell you what is going on. Names have been changed for the families privacy. A friend of mine called me a couple of years ago telling me that his step son had cancer ( wilms tumors) that had attatched itself to his kidneys, lungs, and other internal organs. The Drs. in Indy said it should be treatable with radiation and chemo, as time passed with good days and bad days life was like a roller coaster for “Little man” and his family. Numerous trips to and from Indy sometimes twice a week. Little man was always in high spirits. I remember joking with him about all the attention he was getting and the pretty nurses waiting on him hand and foot. He would just grin and turn red. I was in Evansville the day they first transferred Little man to Indy. He was a real soldier, a little confused but ever willing to obey the nurses and do what he had to do. As time passed the radiation seemed to be helping, he went into remission and was able to return to school, I could only imagine how he felt as he walked in the school and everyone was there to welcome him back. We rode with ABATE of Evansville for a charity run for Little man. He was granted a shopping spree and could purchase anything he wanted, his biggest concern was not only for him but his little sister Nauti. He had a tremendous heart and love for others. Even in his deepest pain his concern was not for himself but for others. Little man woke up 3-13-09 screaming, as his Mom checked on him Little man said that the ceiling was spinning, his eyes rolled in back of his head and his muscles began to draw, he had a fever of 106 . He was flown to Indy where a CT scan comfirmed some brain damage. They had him on a ventilator, and the family had to make a devastating decision. On 3-14-09 at 12:18 I got a call saying Little man was gone. The bible tells us in Hebrews 9: 27 it is appointed once for a man to die. Proverbs 27: 1 says “Do not boast about tomorrow for you do not know what a day may bring forth.” As far as a death sentence I guess it would be covered by those 2 scriptures. But what I do know for sure, Little man was never a Little man at all. He was the biggest man I have ever met. He has gone to be with the Lord, our eternal hope is that some day we will see him again. With any loved one that is possible, but only through Jesus. If you desire to see a lost loved one you must inherit the kingdom of God through His Son Jesus. If you are unsure how to do this please e-mail me contact info and I will guide you through it. Please pray for this family, they are good people. Little man you were a real soldier. God bless, until next time, Deacon

And Then The Fight Started …

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0
Special thanks to David Burris for these jokes !!!
When I got home last night, my wife demanded that I take her someplace expensive….
So, I took her to a gas station…..
And then the fight started….
****
My wife and I are watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire while we were in bed. I turned to her and said,
“Do you want to have sex?”
“No,” she answered.
I then said, “Is that your final answer?”
She didn’t even look at me this time, simply saying “Yes.”
So I said, “Then I’d like to phone a friend.”
And then the fight started….
********
After retiring, I went to the Social Security office to apply for Social Security .
The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver’s license to verify my age.
I looked in my pockets and realized I had left my wallet at home.
I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back later
The woman said, ‘Unbutton your shirt’.
So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair.
She said, ‘That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me’
And she processed my Social Security application.
When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security office.
She said, ‘You should have dropped your pants. You might have gotten Disability, too’
And then the fight started…..
****
Saturday morning I got up early, quietly dressed, made my lunch, grabbed the dog, and slipped quietly into the garage. I hooked up the boat up to the truck, and proceeded to back out into a torrential downpour. The wind was blowing 50 mph, so I pulled  back into the garage, turned on the radio, and discovered that the weather would be bad all day. I went back into the house, quietly undressed, and slipped back into b ed.
I cuddled up to my wife’s back, now with a different anticipation, and whispered, ‘The weather out there is terrible.’
My loving wife of 10 years replied, ‘Can you believe my stupid husband is out fishing in that?’
And that’s how the fight started …
****
My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion, and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table.
My wife asked, ‘Do you know her?’
‘Yes,’ I sighed, ‘she’s my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn’t been sober since.’
‘My God!’ says my wife, ‘Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?’
And then the fight started…..
****
I rear-ended a car this morning.
So, there we were alongside the road and slowly the other driver got out of his car.
You know how sometimes you just get soooo stressed and l ittle things just seem funny?
Yeah, well I couldn’t believe it…. He was a DWARF!!!
He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted, ‘I AM NOT HAPPY!!!’
So, I looked down at him and said, ‘Well, then which one are you?’
And then the fight started…..
****
I took my wife to a restaurant. The waiter, for some reason, took my order first.
‘I’ll have the strip steak, medium rare, please.’
He said, ‘Aren’t you worried about the mad cow?’
‘Nah, she can order for herself.’
And then the fight started…..
****
A woman is standing nude, looking in the bedroom mirror.
She is not happy with what she sees and says to her husband,
‘I feel horrible; I look old, fat and ugly. I really need you to pay me a compliment.’
The husband replies, ‘Your eyesight’s darn near perfect.’
And then the fight started…..

The National Enquirer “You’re A Freaking Douche”

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

neThe National Enquirer is running an article in their current magazine about the Actor Patrick Swayze. The Article is entitled “The End”. Well, unless you have been under a rock for the past year or so, it is well known through legit news sources that Patrick was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer back in March of 2008. He recently did an interview with Barbara Walters in January to set the record straight on how he is doing and how the treatment is going. He knows realistically that surviving this type of cancer is rare but has chosen to fight it and to continue working. I give him two thumbs up for that. He continues to work on his new made for TV Movie project “The Beast”, working on his book and spending time with his family.

Now for the “You’re a freaking Douche” of the week nomination. It goes out to the “National Enquirer” for running such a thoughtless and uncaring article. It seems the people that write for these scandal sheets are ruthless and uncompassionate forms of life at best. How would they feel if they had the same almost hopeless diagnosis and then on top of that stress had to deal with cameramen following them around and watching their every move? Or when they walk into a grocery store they basically see their obituary printed out for the whole world to see? Think about it, He is fighting for his life. Literally, for his life. And this Douche bag of a magazine runs an article saying it’s already over and He has gone home to die. Hell, back in March of 2008, they ran an article saying he had less than five weeks to live. They were wrong but they ran it anyway.

Patrick Swayze is not the first or last celebrity that has been featured in this worthless magazine with their life on the line and The National Enquirer already having their funeral covered long before they are dead.

Patrick may or may not survive but let’s give him a chance and the space to give it his best shot. It’s not a movie script, it’s real life. It’s his life. Let him live in peace …

So for this week and as far as I am concerned, for the entire year …

So to the “The National Enquirer” and the people that write those horrible stories  “You’re a freaking Douche” of the Week”…
