Gradual to Drastic

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Hey everybody how’s it going? Writing articles seems to be one of the latest things that gets peoples attention, so hopefully this article will be no different. Have you ever noticed that most things in life change gradually? As we grow older we began to gradually change in our appearance, in our intelligence, and actually just about all aspects of our lives. Most of the time we don’t regconize even the slightest changes because of the slow process. Come on guys, our hair ain’t what it used to be. Come on ladies, there are changes that you can notice as well. Have you noticed if you run across an old friend, and some times you have trouble remembering them because of the drastic change in their appearance, but to them, that was a gradual change. I know that throughout my life I have noticed gradual changes that looking back it has become a dramatic change. For instance I (like many others) have put on some weight, it was a gradual thing that ended up with drastic weight gain. Another thing that I have noticed is that when a gradual change becomes a drastic change, and it is around for a while it becomes the norm and the change becomes accepted no matter how drastic it is. I have noticed this in my walk with Christ, there has been a gradual change in my beliefs, actions and other aspects of my spiritual walk. The gradual change has become drastic change that has become the norm for me, it has also become accepted by me and others. The change I am referring to is for the worse not for the better. The change has been causing problems for me in my Spiritual walk. I’m sure if we all look back in our walk with Christ there has been changes that we have allowed to take place that is not right. This article is not about condemning anyone, it is about the truth. The truth is, is that when you are a child of God there should be some changes, some gradual and some drastic. But all change should be for the better. Are you going to be perfect, no, but you should strive for perfection. We as children of God should lead by example ( good examples that is ) and set a path that others should want to follow. Accepting people for who they are is the truth, not telling them the truth is wrong. We as Christians, Spiritual leaders, Pastors, Youth Pastors, etc. are held up to an accountability. That accountibility is Biblical, and it is serious business. We as Christians must live a life pleasing to God, not man. If we are trying to please man we are fools. Let us step up, drastically change for the better and do what God wants us to do. Until next time, God bless, Deacon

Stand firm

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

I have a peace that I haven’t had in a while. God revealed to me early this morning that I need to stand firm. I have prayed, I have cried, I have counseled. I have seeked infinite wisdom that only God can give. I have done all I can do, now God says I have to stand, stand firm and do what is pleasing to Him. He alone can give me the wisdom to do what is right. When I speak, I speak on my own behalf and what God has instructed me to say. In life there are many choices we have to make, although people say things happen for a reason, and I believe that to some point, but when something happens, the way we react determines what happens next. When Jesus was tempted in the desert by the devil as the story is told in Matthew chapter four starting in verse one through eleven, it happened for a reason, but the way He reacted determined what happened next, shortly thereafter, our Salvation. When the devil throws something at us we can make a decision to determine what happens next. We also have the power through Christ to stand firm in our faith and our belief in Him. If you act upon temptation in a negative way, you can surely expect negative results. However, if you make positive decisions you can expect positive results from God, not necessarily from people. Just remember, you need to structure your life around what is pleasing to God, NOT MAN. That’s where I’m at today and that is where standing firm comes in, in my life. Please pray for me as I seek God’s direction for me in my life. God bless, Deacon

Anti-Drug Commercials

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

What are the people that do these commercials thinking? They do no good. It hasn’t stopped me at any point (I don’t smoke pot now because I need a job) or any of my friend that still do it. It didn’t stop me from trying pot. So were is the money going to stop us from doing drugs? I also like the fact that they tell you to be different, and hiding it behind a choice by telling you the right thing is to “LIVE ABOVE THE INFLUENCE” instead of letting you choose. I could careless what your drug of choice is as long as you don’t harm anyone else, like when you’re at a bar. It’s cool to drink, just have a designated driver.

Unconditional Love Is Achievable

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

This is a very strong statement. At Set Free Church we preach and teach this very thing. Having unconditional love is something we should be striving for. Have you ever noticed that we always want to put stipulations on our love for someone? Have you ever noticed that when we love someone that we try and put conditions on it? Can you imagine having an unconditional love for any one? As you continue reading this article I want to challenge you to examine your love for others and see if you have put conditions on you love. As humans I guess it is of the norm that we do put stipulations on the ones we love because of the possibility that the ones we love will let us down. If we put conditions and/or stipulations on our love to others it gives us an escape route. We can always say to them that since you didn’t do what we wanted or asked of you then we can stop loving you. Someone in our lives can do everything right for years and just as soon as they fail us we are to quick to jump the gun and turn that love we have for our family or friend into hate. I’m not trying to justify someone’s action to you, but merely saying that we as humans have the ability to forgive. At Set Free Church as previously stated, we are trying to achieve the level of unconditional love. It is my hope and belief that with enough prayer and the desire to be more Christ like that this is a possibility. The bible tells us in Romans 3:23
“For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” You see we are all unworthy, but through the blood of Jesus we are joint heirs with Him who saved us. To be more Christ like to me is more than just striving to be sinless, although we try to sin less it is impossible to be sinless. If that were achievable there would be no reason for Jesus or the cross. I think that being Christ like is having that unconditional love for our God and fellow Brothers and Sisters, that is something that can be achieved. I have recently experienced someone who has honestly reached this goal. A never ending unconditional love for his family and Brothers in Christ. To begin the process of unconditional love we must first seek God, then we must be willing to look past the faults of others and began to look at their hearts. Accept them for who they are just as Jesus does, and not let one or two or even more faults put conditions on our love for others. If someone you truly love has hurt you, you don’t have to agree with what they did, but you must love them. Without Love, you have nothing. It is easier to love than it is to hate. When you follow this, as it is written in (NIV) Mathew 22:37-39 “Jesus replied, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself” Once you’ve achieved this, you are on your way to unconditional love. Until next time, God bless, Deacon

We Are Not Promised Tomorrow

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Does everyone have a death sentence? Do you have a certain time to die? Are we promised tomorrow? These are some questions that I have been asked the last couple of days. Before we go any further let tell you what is going on. Names have been changed for the families privacy. A friend of mine called me a couple of years ago telling me that his step son had cancer ( wilms tumors) that had attatched itself to his kidneys, lungs, and other internal organs. The Drs. in Indy said it should be treatable with radiation and chemo, as time passed with good days and bad days life was like a roller coaster for “Little man” and his family. Numerous trips to and from Indy sometimes twice a week. Little man was always in high spirits. I remember joking with him about all the attention he was getting and the pretty nurses waiting on him hand and foot. He would just grin and turn red. I was in Evansville the day they first transferred Little man to Indy. He was a real soldier, a little confused but ever willing to obey the nurses and do what he had to do. As time passed the radiation seemed to be helping, he went into remission and was able to return to school, I could only imagine how he felt as he walked in the school and everyone was there to welcome him back. We rode with ABATE of Evansville for a charity run for Little man. He was granted a shopping spree and could purchase anything he wanted, his biggest concern was not only for him but his little sister Nauti. He had a tremendous heart and love for others. Even in his deepest pain his concern was not for himself but for others. Little man woke up 3-13-09 screaming, as his Mom checked on him Little man said that the ceiling was spinning, his eyes rolled in back of his head and his muscles began to draw, he had a fever of 106 . He was flown to Indy where a CT scan comfirmed some brain damage. They had him on a ventilator, and the family had to make a devastating decision. On 3-14-09 at 12:18 I got a call saying Little man was gone. The bible tells us in Hebrews 9: 27 it is appointed once for a man to die. Proverbs 27: 1 says “Do not boast about tomorrow for you do not know what a day may bring forth.” As far as a death sentence I guess it would be covered by those 2 scriptures. But what I do know for sure, Little man was never a Little man at all. He was the biggest man I have ever met. He has gone to be with the Lord, our eternal hope is that some day we will see him again. With any loved one that is possible, but only through Jesus. If you desire to see a lost loved one you must inherit the kingdom of God through His Son Jesus. If you are unsure how to do this please e-mail me contact info and I will guide you through it. Please pray for this family, they are good people. Little man you were a real soldier. God bless, until next time, Deacon

Political Joke..or is it?

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Young Chuck in Montana bought a horse from a farmer for $100. The farmer agreed to deliver the horse the next day.

The next day the farmer drove up and said, “Sorry son, but I have some bad news … the horse died.” Chuck replied,  “Well, then just give me my money back.” The farmer said, “Can’t do that. I went and spent it already.” Chuck said, “OK, then, just bring me the dead horse.”

The farmer said, “What are you going to do with a dead horse?” Chuck said, “I’m going to raffle him off.” The farmer said, “You can’t raffle off a dead horse!” Chuck said, “Sure I can, Watch me. I just won’t tell anybody he’s dead.”

A month later, the farmer met up with Chuck and asked, “What happened with that dead horse?” Chuck said, “I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars a piece and made a profit of $998.” The farmer said, “Didn’t anyone complain?” Chuck said, “Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollars back.” Chuck grew up and now works for the government. He’s the one who figured out how this “bail-out” is going to work.

Keepin’ it real!

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

What is going on in the world today? What has happened to the logic behind the good Samaritan? Luke 10:25-37 says “On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?” He answered: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind” and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live. But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his cloths, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him, ‘he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburce you for any extra expense you may have. “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers? The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do like-wise.” NIV

I’m writing about this because I try to help others out when I see the need as the Spirit directs me. How much better would this world be if we all followed the golden Samaritan rule. I know in today’s society that you have to be careful and not put yourself in a bad situation. I recently saw an old lady that had ran out of gas sitting in traffic crying unsure of what to do as cars honked and when around her not caring what her problem was. I stopped and approached her car, wearing my biker attire, and asked if she needed some help, she was amazingly surprised that someone finally stopped to help her. I pushed her car off to the side of the road in a safe location and ran to my house got a gas can and took her 5 gallons of gas and got her car started. It only took about fifteen minutes out of my day to help insure her safety. She thanked me to no end and offered to pay me for my time and for the gas. I refused payment from her. It was my time to be the good Samaritan. As Matthew 6 :1-4 tells us not to do our acts to be seen by men but to be seen by our Father in heaven, which is where your rewards will be given. Hopefully the next time you see someone in distress and feel the urge to help, please by all means help them out, without expecting or accepting anything from the one’s you help. I’m sure you will feel better about yourself and know that the person you help will feel better about the world we live in. God bless, until next time.

Deacon
