Like Marcie said “Thanks Giving is more than just eating Chuck”

“We should just be thankful for being together, I think that’s what they mean by Thanks Giving Charlie Brown “

A CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING - The ABC Television Network will celebrate the start of the holiday season with the classic special, "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving," MONDAY, NOVEMBER 25 and THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 27 (8:00-8:30 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network. In the 1973 special "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving," Charlie Brown wants to do something special for the gang. However the dinner he arranges is a disaster when caterers Snoopy and Woodstock prepare toast and popcorn as the main dish. Humiliated, it will take all of Marcie's persuasive powers to salvage the holiday for Charlie Brown. (©1973 United Feature Syndicate Inc.)

Its Thanksgiving this week. A time to reflect back on the year and remember the blessings, no matter how great or how small, that we all have. I know the world is upside at the moment and we need to remember that in our prayers and thoughts but surely everyone has something to be thankful at this time of year. What do you have thankful for? It may be that your family is getting together and sharing good times. It may be that you have a roof over your head and heat. It may be that you have change in your pocket. But surely you have something to be thankful for. What is yours?

Pat Ballard… Authentic Home Grown Music

Like everyone else probably does, I was scrolling through Facebook the other day looking at all the different posts and I came across one of Pat Ballard’s posts about him putting his songs up on ReverbNation. Pat happens to be the main DJ over at Madisonville’s on Power Rock 93.9 WKTG. He can be heard on the “Out to Lunch” program…But he is also a Singer and Songwriter.

And so like I usually do when I see a local video or music player showcasing local talent I give it a listen. Most of the time the songs are “ok”. Not that I am an authority of music. I just know what I like and don’t like… I tried to “make it” in the business and despite some close calls nothing ever came through. So here I am still trying and running to Nashville all the time… but back to my story about Pat. I saw Pat’s ReverbNation player and I hit the play button…

I gave it a listen and man do I have to say “WOW!!!”,

His music is kinda folksy, honest, heart felt, Americana, and more… It reminded me of John Melloncamp and his Midwest “feel”. It’s not Hollywood. Nothing wrong with Hollywood but Hollywood for the most part is fake. Pat’s music is real, down home stuff. You can sit on a front porch and enjoy it with a glass of lemonade or cold beer and watch the sun go down.

His influences? I dunno but I hear Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, Willie Nelson, John Melloncamp, Tom Petty,  Bob Dylan and maybe some Michael Stipe all wrapped up in there just to name a few… And those are good influences to have.

If have a few minutes here is the ReverbNation player. Sit back and hit play. I don’t think you will be disappointed. I keep hitting the repeat button on it. My favorite is the “Back Home Blues”. So as I tip back a glass of cold beer and sit on my front porch!  Cheers!

Interview with local “Blues Legend” Boscoe France!

boscoeA couple of weeks ago I was doing what I normally do around lunch time. I was checking out WKTG’s “Out to Lunch” with the our local radio celebrity Pat BallardPat is a great supporter of the music scene and showcases the local talent, plus he plays some kick ass old school metal that I cut my young guitar playing teeth on back in the day.. On this particular day he had Boscoe France on and they were discussing the “blues”. Though I am not really a fan of the “blues” unless the scales are played faster and through distortion pedals and Marshall amps, I found this interview Pat did with Boscoe very interesting and informative at the same time. So I called Pat up said hello to the guys and Pat threw on some Maiden for me and I enjoyed the rest of the show as I always do. A few days later I hit Boscoe up on Facebook and the rest “as they say” is history! Check out Boscoe’s interview below. Click on his name and it will take you to his Facebook page!

boscoe1. Welcome to Kick Acts Boscoe. Tell us a little about yourself and were you can be found at on the web.

My name is Boscoe France.I am from Kentucky and have been playing guitar for 32 years.I am 35.I have toured nationally with national acts and also played locally in bars from age 12.I have Facebook and reverbnation pages.
2. Who are your musical heroes, influences & why?

My musical heroes are a short list.Duke Madison was my uncle he played music at all our family functions. He was the first guitarist/singer I reckon I ever saw.He would always let me hang out and play.Once my folks saw I was totally hooked My folks got me a guitar. My Daddy bartered with a friend for a guitar and that was that.I listened to my moms kiss,Beatles, and skynyrd.I love Duane Allman, Freddie King, and Elmore James. When I was around four or five I saw the blues brothers movie and found soul music.
3. Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in playing music? Any pitfalls they should avoid?

Advice from me is practice your instrument.Be good at it.Then go out and play.I would also advice that you should take the music seriously and not be shitfaced.I had my bout with drugs and alcohol and I am happy to say I came out the other side fairly unharmed.I can say that club owners like dealing with professional people.I have been blessed to play a lot of shows and for that reason I think of every show as special.Maybe I met this friend at this gig Read more…
