James interviews Jeff Henson of Meganaut

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Thanks to James for the interview!

Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and your band and were you can be found at on the web.

www.meganautmusic.com And I am Jeff Henson the frontman/founder of the

hard rock band.

logon

Who are your musical heroes, influences & why?

QOTSA is a big one, 70’s hard rock.. and also guys like nilsson, nick lowe,

and the like for their killer melodies.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in playing music? Any pitfalls they should avoid?

Make a great sounding record, buy a van and get your ass on the road. Pitfalls…?

Not getting on the road or taking it seriously.. until you

do, you have a very very tiny shot at anything

Do you have a greatest gig story you’d like to share?

Any night we are playing music in front of fans is the greatest gig to us.

Some obviously better than others, but we just like to play.

On the same token as the above question. How about a “worse gig” ever story.

Lol probly, maybe the time the ATF and FBI people busted into the bar and

shut it down an hour before we went on.. that was fun

Meganaut on frozen Lake

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of boobs?

nope, i make music of all sorts and produce albums for other people… my

life is pretty much only music

What do you think about the present music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

all i’ll say is that we are on a self proclaimed mission to bring some

balls and strong melodies back to straight forward rock n roll.

Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear… Like their hobbies or something like that…

hmmm, we are really a boring, nerdy bunch of guys that geek out about music

and sometimes video games and iphone apps… pretty much music runs every

part of all of our lives.

Hypothetical situation. You’re stranded on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up with only one of the girls… Is it Ginger, Mary Ann or Mrs. Howell and why?

Ginger, I’ve had a thing for redheads… although mary ann would probly be

a lot less drama

meganaut-wrigley-1

Our last question  is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

CALL YOUR RADIO STATION AND REQUEST BANDS LIKE MEGANAUT AND GO SEE LIVE

SHOWS. RADIO WILL PLAY GOOD MUSIC AGAIN IF WE YELL LOUD ENOUGH… YOU

WANNA BITCH ABOUT THE MUSIC SCENE.. THEN GO DO SOMETHING TO HELP CHANGE IT.

That loud enough? 🙂 thanks for the interview and for not asking 35

questions about what our favorite color is and shit like that. Much love*

Tom Petty speaks volumes about modern country music

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Tom-PettyI like how he sums it up pretty good in these two quotes. Hats off to Tom for speaking the truth and being honest and not worrying about what others think too.

“I don’t really see a George Jones or a Buck Owens or any anything that fresh coming up,” Petty explains. “I’m sure there must be somebody doing it, but most of that music reminds me of rock in the middle 80s where it became incredibly generic and relied on videos.”

I hate to generalize on a whole genre of music, but it does seem to be missing that magic element that it used to have,” he furthers. “I’m sure there are people playing country that are doing it well, but they’re just not getting the attention that the shittier stuff gets.”

Here’s the link for the whole article.

Hats off to Lemmy!

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

If you love  rock and roll and don’t know who Lemmy is…You really should take down your boy band posters and get a good dose of healthy “Motor Head” to get your head out of your butt.

mmhn

As real rock fans know, Lemmy, The Grandfather of Rock has had a bout of serious health issues here lately but he had the metal balls and guts to go out and give it a go anyway! Here is a YouTube video of his band doing 30 minutes of a 75 minute set. 85,000 screaming people and over 100 degrees on stage… Granted he only did 6 songs but most of you “One Direction” boy band suckers will never be able to pull off something like this…Here’s to you getting better LEMMY!

Death Row confessions from Texas

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

and their crimes… For all you curious and sick bastards out there! Pretty interesting site. Texas don’t play around. Since 1977 Texas death row inmates get out of here pretty easily compared to how they took out most of their victims. Death by Lethal injection instead of through old “Sparky”. I think it would better going to sleep and “passing over” than being cooked from the inside out by Thomas Edison’s or Nikola Tesla’s electricity  invention. Depending on which side of the argument you want to be on.

chuck

death-penalty3

Here is one “last statement” quote from an inmate getting ready to be executed and there are hundreds more and the crimes they were committed to death for from other death row inmates.

Date of Execution:

June 12, 2013

Offender:

Elroy Chester, #999280

Last Statement:

I just want to say I don’t want you to have hate in your heart for me, because I took your loved one. I know it doesn’t mean anything; I told the truth because I feel like you should know who killed your loved one. God watches everything. Don’t hate me, if you do, you’ll have to deal with Him later. For me, live your life but don’t hate me. I’m sorry for taking your loved one.

Ms. Suzy, Susan, thank you for fighting for me in the courts. Thank you for supporting me for all these years. Elroy Chester wasn’t a bad man, I knew me. A lot of people say I didn’t commit those murders, I really did it.

That’s my statement. Warden, you can go ahead.

Pretty damn scary considering they are seconds from meeting their maker and knowing they are. I wonder how many have An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridgemoment? And who in the hell will know that story reference besides me???

(I wonder how many other writers will jack this post and rewrite it and make it their own? lol…I can think of a couple, no hard feelings but how bout a shout out and at least tag Kickacts)

James interviews Tamara Bubble!

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Recently James Lowe from Kickacts Magazine sat down with one of the very exciting artists on the scene.

Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and your band and were you can be found at on the web.

Thanx for the warm welcome babes! I’m Tamara Bubble. I’m from Brooklyn, New York  (Fort Greene to be exact).  I’m and entertainer, actress, songwriter and model. I write and perform Jazz, Pop, Hip Hop, R&B and Soul. My official website it http://TamaraBubble.com and that’s where you should start.

Tamara Bubble_Living it Up Single Cover

Who are your musical heroes, influences & why?

I have sooo many influences, mostly old school though. I listen to so many different genres of music.  Michael Jackson is the ultimate performer and POP KING! When it comes to Jazz, I love me some Ella Fitzgerald and Lena Horne.   I’m a rapper too and Biggie does it for me lyrically.  He’s the reason I take the lyrics so serious. He’s just a dope storyteller.  I love all those 90s R&B and Gospel groups. I love beautiful harmonies … SWV, Brownstone, Boyz II Men, Take 6, etc.  As far as powerful women that sing and rap, Lauryn Hill and Queen Latifah.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in playing music? Any pitfalls they should avoid?

There’s no way to avoid the pitfalls. I’d love to be positive and lie and say it’s all peaches and cream lol but the truth of the matter is that if you’re just getting started be prepared to waste and music and find people who are not as hard working as you.  Don’t let it slow you down, just don’t be surprised when you see it first hand. The scams, the lies, it’s really like a soap opera lol

Do you have a greatest gig story you’d like to share?

I did a show in Miami. The crowd was amazing. I always take their reactions home with me especially when it’s a new crowd. I look dead in their eyes and see pure enjoyment while hearing the songs for the first time. That is an amazing feeling.

On the same token as the above question. How about a “worse gig” ever story.

Well I don’t know if this qualifies because the gig was great, but the trip there was the worst. My first show on the “Unleashed” promo tour was a doozy. Well, getting there anyway. I over packed because well I’m a girl and tend to bring everything I own for a one day trip.  Ended up having to dump everything to make room for the merchandise I was selling at the show (posters, t-shirts, CDs) and then had nerve to miss my flight GRRR! Ahem … I won’t name names LOL.  Next, I got hustled by the flight agent and paid extra for this unguaranteed standby flight and also had issues renting the pre-reserved, NONREFUNDABLE, rental car!! Unfortunately I don’t walk around with copies of utility bills in my back pocket GRRRR!!  Now, over 4 hours late (and been growling all day), I no longer have time to stop by the hotel, check in, shower and change.  AIRPORT bathroom is the new Marriott! Then, this freaking taxi guy (not knowing that we’re already 4 hours late), takes the scenic route from the airport (plays the GPS game) to run up the meter GRRRRRR! When I get there though, my attitude changed and all things were Bubbly! People waiting to see the “Bubble On Deck” was such an amazing feeling! Atlanta showed so much love ^_^.

https://itunes.apple.com/au/album/rap-2-this/id545904490?i=545904491

The moral of that story is don’t miss your flight lol no I just learned that no matter what’s going on in your day, when you have a show, your job as an artist is to entertain!

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of boobs?

I like to entertain in general. Acting and dancing are at the top of the list. I’m no comedian but I do make people laugh a lot. It’s healthy.  I love games, board games, card games, rollercoasters, I even make up games lol

What do you think about the present music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

The current music scene is a bit super saturated. Everybody’s an artist. There’s hardly any fans of the art.  It’s fine if that’s really your passion, otherwise you’re just creating a bunch of meaningless crap that listeners have to sort through to find me lol thanx a lot.

Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear… Like their hobbies or something like that…

I’m addicted to chicken, ice and old school video games.

Hypothetical situation. You’re stranded on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up with only one of the girls… Is it Ginger, Mary Ann or Mrs. Howell and why?

Um do they have any brothers because I don’t do girls lol

Our last question  is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

I want to give a special shout to my manager Patrick at Pspell Management, my label Blue Pie Productions/ DJ Central / Sony and my fans for making it all worthwhile. Stick with me and stay tuned.

James interviews Alexander “Motor” of GRENOVER from Russia!

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

(Just for the record these guys are one bad ass freakin band! They are our brothers in ROCK!)

special thanks to James for the interview!

Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and your band and were you can be found at on the web.

gren_nAlexander ‘Motor’ (guitars): Hi, folks! Really nice to meet you all and to talk for a while. I’m Alexander ‘Motor’, guitarist and co-songwriter of GRENOUER band. We play metal, rock or whatever you might call our mix. Google to find us or just go to the web-site www.grenouer.com and check links to our pages within the main social networks, we are very easy to get discovered. I am reckoned as a co-founder of GRENOUER, yet this is only partially true. In fact I joined the band in 1999 when GRENOUER were local death metal stars. In 2010 the frontman Andrey ‘Ind’ and me had to reassemble the band and the fact makes me definitely a co-founder of today’s GRENOUER. 14 years in a band is a not a joke anyway. I am aged 32, married.

https://www.facebook.com/Grenouer

Who are your musical heroes, influences & why?

alenMotor: I have a lot of musical heroes, music affairs are often very heroic. Maybe due to absolute dedication of many musicians. Like going on a questionable tour in an uncomfortable van. Influences? Naturally lots of them from David Bowie to GODFLESH! I started from classical BLACK SABBATH because my dad was into them, and they gave me good understanding of the power of minor key.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in playing music? Any pitfalls they should avoid?

Motor: You need to have goals, both short-term and long-term. And you’d better be honest with yourself. It’s no use to waste time doing what you dislike and teaming up with people you have no evident sympathy for. The easiest way is to deal with true enthusiasts and skilled professionals. And you have to be severe with nobody else but yourself, don’t forget about self-education and personal development, get ready to spend money and to miss a lot of parties.

Do you have a greatest gig story you’d like to share?

Motor: 2005, GRENOUER touring in Siberia, one of our gigs banned. It happened in Kemerovo city, promoters did their best to save the event but they couldn’t fight false denunciation in advocacy of violence. That felt like a real shock as if USSR days were back when playing rock music meant being illegal. Ticket were sold out and the house was expected to be totally full, yet the police guard at the venue “strangle evil at its birth”. A few hours later we were giving a secret show at a small studio for a very narrow circle of people, true underground resistance with very unusual feeling, still this incident is hard to compare with the folly case of PUSSY RIOT.

band_n

On the same token as the above question. How about a “worse gig” ever story.

Motor: A worse gig is when the feelings are missing. That might be for different reasons – unfair promoters, incorrect selection of bands, horrible sound… We always aim to pleasure fans in spite of any mess though. Oh, it has just occurred to me – the gig in Kirov city, we tested local beer and then had to carry toilet paper everywhere, even on stage!

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of boobs?

Motor: My new hobby is checking out on-line training music courses, they save time and money. The latest one was from Berkley College of Music. Yeah, sometimes I draw apocalyptic pictures with a pencil, I wish I could tell that I draw them on boobs.

What do you think about the present music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

Motor: I like that the present music scene is so huge, for everyone’s taste. In my opinion the era of decent albums is returning. And I am happy that I am on stage while a lot of friendly bands just gave up for nothing.

Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear… Like their hobbies or something like that…

Motor: At one gig afterparty I fell asleep earlier than others and charitable guys covered me with a bicycle instead of a blanket. So, I must be a decent cyclist now. Our bass player Daemon was recently employed in the position of the exterminator fighting with insects and rodents. That caused a lot of jokes about moles, well, moles are funnier than rats. Andrey ‘Ind’, lead singer, used to work as a teacher at school, he had to wake up very early in the morning. One of the mornings he was arrested by mistake for a kindergarten robbery. Spent several hours at the police station, was questioned and then dismissed unbeaten. One of the criminating evidences was a stolen vibrator. Drummer Danny had a cute girlfriend who was fond of clay modeling. One fine day Danny made a sculpture with a huge dick and that sculpture caused a furor at the party. The guests eagerly embraced it, took pictures, unfortunately Instagram didn’t exits then.

Hypothetical situation. You’re stranded on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up with only one of the girls… Is it Ginger, Mary Ann or Mrs. Howell and why?

Motor: I never watched “Gilligan’s Island”, but I can answer in relation to “Moonlighting”. Choosing between Bruce Willis, Cybill Shepherd and Allyce Beasley I will never think of Bruce Willis. Just because he is half-German!

Our last question is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

Motor: I will highly enjoy YOU shouting one of GRENOUER’s song! “Blood on the Face” suits that fairly well!

It’s “DEVO” day in memory of Alan Myers

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

from:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/devo-drummer-alan-myers-dies-574714

A member of the new wave band from 1976 to 1986, he plays on their biggest hit, 1980’s “Whip It.”

Alan Myers, the third and most prominent drummer of the band Devo, has died, according to a tweet by drummer and current Devo member Josh Freese. Myers had been battling cancer.

Myers joined Devo in 1976 and left a decade later. He can be heard on the new wave band’s biggest hit, 1980’s “Whip It,” which reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. Myers also appears in the song’s iconic video, joining his bandmates in black, sleeveless turtlenecks, and their trademark headgear, where he is shown playing a set of Synare 3 drum synthesizers.

His style of drumming became near legendary thanks to such seminal albums as Devo’s 1978 debut, Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! And 1980’s Freedom of Choice as well as the concert movie Devo Live 1980, issued by Target Video in 2005.

James interviews Laura Clinton of Barley Cove!

google.com, pub-2427795083793513, DIRECT, f08c47fec0942fa0

Recently James Lowe from Kickacts Magazine sat down with one of the very exciting artists on the scene. The following is a written interview we conducted with the artist!

CFF_8011

Welcome to Kick Acts. Tell us a little about yourself and your band and were you can be found at on the web.

We are a folk-rock-alternative acoustic trio out of the Carolinas.  Laura Clinton-singer/songwriter, keys, acoustic guitar/

Jesse Thomas-Electric Guitar/ Tim Trammel-percussionist

We can be found here:

Who are your musical heroes, influences & why?

Patty Griffin, Ani Difranco, Damien Rice, Radiohead, The White Stripes, Jeff Buckley, Springsteen, The Eagles, Incubus…bands and singer/songwriters who write their own music have inspired us all.

Do you have any advice for someone just getting started in playing music? Any pitfalls they should avoid?

If the desire is in you to make music, do it!  We all went to college, got jobs, and lived with regret until now.  Go for it when you are young…there is always time for a 9-5.  Avoid the pitfall of saying so and so is better, so why even try…don’t listen, someone will like what you create.

Do you have a greatest gig story you’d like to share?

Playing the TEDx after party in our town was pretty incredible for a first time gig!  I was so intimidated, but honored at the same time!

On the same token as the above question. How about a “worse gig” ever story.

Worse gig, turned out to be a good night in the long run…it was a cold, rainy, February eve, we had a steady audience throughout the night of about 10-15 folks…but Tim approached us after that gig asking if we needed a drummer, so it turned out to be not so bad after all.

Do you have any other hobbies other than playing music? Collect stamps? Collect hats from off the side of the road? Draw pictures of boobs?

I teach yoga, 3rd grade, and have a child.

Tim is an engineer, and Jesse is a comic artist who does draw boobs at times.  I can get you a drawing.

What do you think about the present music scene or lack of? Care to address that?

The scene in the Upstate of SC  is growing, and down in Charleston, it is smoking!

Tell us something about each of your band members that we wouldn’t expect to hear… Like their hobbies or something like that…

Laura-certified yoga teacher

Tim-will wrap your body

Jesse-has his own comic book series

CFF_8141

Hypothetical situation. You’re stranded on Gilligan’s island and you get to hook up with only one of the girls… Is it Ginger, Mary Ann or Mrs. Howell and why?

I am all about the professor…

Our last question  is called “Shout It Out Loud”. It’s were you get to talk about whatever you want to talk about. So go ahead and “SHOUT IT OUT LOUD”!

Support local music, businesses, artists!
